I was hit head on by a bloke on my side of the road yesterday.

He was overtaking a cyclist on a fast bend. He hit me about 70mph the Police reckon.

A lucky escape for me but the car looks pretty mullered - chassis bent, suspension ripped off, engine pushed back in the chassis and rear suspension smashed.

Over all it's a bit sick.

Looks like I'll be in the market for another car in the next couple of weeks - Ford Sigma or Zetec this time I reckon with a budget around £15000 - keep your ears to the ground for me please!!

Wrists / ankles / back / neck ok?
Sore left knee and shin, shoulders and neck are uncomfortable to say the least and I've still got a rather impressive headache!

Lucky ?? always makes you think.what if!!! From what we can see no matter what the speed it was too fast, I know we all do it,I'd be on the phone looking for a replacement hire car at the other parties expense whilst a suitable replacement is found plus the on going physical and psychological damage. Just imagine our daughters out on that country road on a hack!!! I've had more than my fair share of my own recklessness near misses and cyclist near misses out in the sticks, I stopped riding my R1 in London after 1 too many blameless near misses and arrogant cyclists who must drive taxis for a living. Lady luck rode with you that day, I try to take her out everytime!!
I actually wasn't travelling very quickly having just come out of a 30 limit in the village -the other driver was tanking it to get past the cyclist, the poor cyclist was absolutely blameless.

Proves how strong Caterhams are.

Why don't you want another K?

Don't forget the Zetec wasn't an official factory fitted engine. Sigmas are relatively recent too; can they be bought for £15k now?
I'm not saying I don't want another K Series, they're fantastic! I just might try something different this time round.

Wow! Really sorry to see your Caterham in that state, but you're okay and that's the main thing. thumbup

What car was the other driver in? And how much damage did it cause him? And out of interested, how were the police?
He was driving a Suzuki 4x4 thing. He ended up on his side after hitting the bank after me. Mostly damage to his front right where he walloped me.

The Police were fantastic, very helpful, sympathetic and were on my side from the very start. The cyclist was golden too, he left the Police in no doubt as to the Suzuki drivers culpability.

I'm looking for a new car already, I'm working on the assumption mine will be written off but I don't know for sure yet. They might decide to repair mine?

As for where the wheel station went, I don't know but thankfully it didnt clout my cannister and dash out the small amounts of brain I have!

Today I've arranged for my car to be recovered to my house rather than it go to Copart. The insurance company were more than happy to arrange it and I'll have it back in a couple of days with the assessor coming (hopefully) shortly after.

Its going to be horrid having it here looking so smashed up but at least it gives me some level of control - the world seems to be of the opinion that once in an accident your car belongs to the insurance company and it can be treated like scrap from day one, they seem to forget its my pride and joy and belongs to me until I've accepted a settlement and handed over the V5.

Just got to wait on the assessors report before deciding what to do next.

Depressing.

Update - the car is on its way to me right now!

The car is home and looking very sad indeed.

As well as the obvious front end damage there's a lot that's not immediately clear to the eye.

Drivers footwell is buckled.
Transmission tunnel is buckled.
Gearbox has shifted back and a section is sticking into the drivers compartment.
Diff is pissing oil.
De Dion tube is fouling the rear right hand wheel.
Chassis bent in engine compartment.
Dents on rear panel.
Exhaust primaries bent and silencer dented.
Throttle cable snapped.
Sump has a hole in it.

And there's more, its not looking good at all!

Sitting on stands in the garage now and its not sitting evenly - I suspect a twisted chassis.

The assessor is here on Friday so I should know where I stand next week.

As I said earlier, depressing!
