Oi! Less yapping, more playing please. I've got another 10 hours of work and travel before I can get home to play the DLC, I'm expecting a thorough review of the new raid by the time I get home smile
Amazingly I've actually got work on at the moment (no I'm not Santa's little helper), so my play time has been cut down drastically - i.e. I only get normal amounts of time to play now! frown

This situation won't change until January, so I haven't even bought the DLC yet - I'm going to wait to see what you guys think of it before I take the plunge.

I really want to move to a better (more fulfilling, less repetitive) game, but I'm struggling to find one.

No doubt I will get dragged into the new DLC though - I have so many shards, exotic shards and energies in my vault I could max out every new weapon and piece of armour pretty much instantly! paperbag

The only thing that might stop me is if the route for upgrading existing exotics is to "reforge" them - I've put so much time into them, I can't bear the thought of having to do it again!

Not mine:-

Oh yes. Come on, home time. smile

Apparently boots and gloves are for sale (75 marks?!) but commendations are needed for new chest and head pieces?! smile

Well done to those that got decent stuff cheesing the oracles last night... but looks as though this will need to be sharded already- the new stuff has higher light levels. hehe

I'll catch up with a few of you for the nightfall, this evening. I'm keen to explore the new content but want to make the most of the exp etc all that brings.

I'm pretty "stoked" smile

Looking forward to the playing the Expansion stuff tonight, early comments are saying CE is hugely more impressive than VoG, so here's hoping that it will be.

I've played for 245 hours so far, and that doesn't include orbit or tower time. I don't think I'd have even played 10% of that if it weren't for the fact that I play pretty much every night with 2 or 3 friends. I truly do pity anyone who's played most of this on their own, as I can imagine it's severely worse than when you're talking and playing with friends.

A friend has played it for 540 hours so far, which makes my amount of play time feel tiny compared.

It's quite literally the best value game I've ever played. Okay I only ended up paying £17 for it on launch from Tesco after selling the headset, and then only paid £25 for the expansion after doubling my Nectar points in the recent promotion, but even before actually playing the two expansions I've paid for, I'm at 17p an hour, which is outstanding. My friend (who paid retail for both) is at 14p an hour!

I used www.destinystatus.com to see playtime, yes you can see it in the app again now, but I find this website so much more useful.

So, I'm a good 6 hours into the new stuff now. My Warlock became lvl 30 after about and hour and a half and I've so far completed allthe story mssions on lvl 30, both the new strikes, a few bounties and we've had a little look at the new raid. I already feel like my money was well spent as it doesn't feel like such a grind at the moment but, no doubt the grinding element will start again soon enough!

Lots of interesting new things to do and it is nice to actually have something to spend my shards on!! Not sure when I'm going to find the time to it all with my other character!

The strikes are great fun - Doesn't seem like there will be an easy way to cheese either of them, which is actually quite refreshing.

I strongly reommend that you go into the new raid completely blind. We had such a laugh trying to figure out what we were supposed to be doing. We didn't expect to get very far, there were only 4 of us. Cannot wait to get back in there tonight to see if we can get onto the second section.

I need to do the nightfall stuff to complete an exotic bounty but it's closed unless you buy the expansion. That's a bit mean. I'm not a big fan of bungie these days.

Nightfall this week is the new expansion strike, next week it will likely revert back to another strike that the cheapskates can play.

WTF?! Seriously?! eek

That really p!sses me off - it's a massive F U from Bungie to those who have been loyal to the game for the past 2 months but haven't bought the DLC.

Even less to do now that there's no Nightfall this week. mad

So how did you manage to rank up so quick Mr Speckle?

I don't understand the people that are annoyed that there's no nightfall to do this week, but like the game enough to be annoyed, yet not buy the DLC? I'm glad it's a new strike, change things up, give it a go. Every 7 weeks non TDB owners won't be able to do the Weeklys.

I bought some vanguard boots with a higher light level and wore them for all the missions. I was already very close to 30, this just meant I didn't have to rely on RNG to get there.

No weekly or heroic if you haven't bought the DLC - i.e. nothing to do to progress but one daily mission each day and the bounties - i.e. 30 minutes of completely unchallenging gameplay.

It's basically Bungie hanging loyal players out to dry unless they cough up more money. frown

I'm just hoping they really haven't shafted us by making VoG totally redundent - legendary weapons and armour you can buy now go to 331 attack power/33 light points. If VoG weapons are still 300 and armour 30, there's no point in doing it ever again.

Yeah, for this week, next week it will be back to normal.

VoG raid gear is 300/30 now, it can drop upgraded exotics though, and is good for ascendants, so not entirely useless.

You've played 548 hours, even with the expansion pass you'll have a stupidly good value game.

Basically it's buy the DLC, or grind to 31 and then it's pretty much endgame.

Could be wrong here, but don't you need commendations (either crucible or vanguard) to purchase the better gear from any vendor, which you gain one of each time you level either your vanguard or crucible rep above level 3.

So, you actually don't want to be earning faction reputation at all - you want to be earning solely vanguard or crucible reps.

I'm seriously considering jacking it in then, not only because I don't really think the DLC is value for money, but also because it totally undermines my 543 hours.

I kind of feel that I've earned the right to have at least equal kit to everyone else (not necessarily the same kit, just kit that performs on a par with them), not that I should be starting from scratch with the same kit that everyone else has.

As for it being good value for me, your way is one way of looking at it. I look at it as a comparison to what I received compared to what I was promised, on that basis, it's been poor value.

Oh well, the search is on - anyone for Far Cry 4?! laugh

But why should people who haven't paid be able to have the same power of gear to someone who has? You can get the same power guns, just you cannot get to Level 32.

Works perfectly well in BF4 - why should paying more money give you an advantage over other people in the game? confused

Similarly, why should I spend 543 hours obtaining, unlocking and levelling all the kit, only to have to pay £20 to throw it in the bin and start again? confused

For me, the clue is in the name: DLC.

Content, not Advantage.

After all, what do the new weapons and gear actually do that the old gear doesn't?

Nothing is the answer, it's the same old weapons, armour and features, but "higher level".

It's not really higher level of course, it just seems it because the new enemies are also higher level.

They could just as easily have downgraded the old armour and enemies to level 28 and released the new armour and enemies at level 30. It would be exactly the same.

It's just a con trick, no new content, just make the old gear less powerful and make the new gear more powerful.

But does it matter?

None of the original areas/strikes/raids need gear beyond level 30 so if you do not pay for the new areas then you do not need to level up any further.

if you have all the bits you need then you have finished if not you can carry on but you will be repeating existing content (as most people have been for weeks)
