But does it matter?

None of the original areas/strikes/raids need gear beyond level 30 so if you do not pay for the new areas then you do not need to level up any further.

if you have all the bits you need then you have finished if not you can carry on but you will be repeating existing content (as most people have been for weeks)
I guess it doesn't matter, it just means I'm finished with the game as I have done everything up to level 30 that can be done.

I'd hoped that Destiny was a long term thing though (Bungie themselves claimed a 10 year commitment), not 10 years only if you're prepared to pay out £20 every 3 months to basically reset your gear and start grinding again with only a couple of new strikes and a Raid to keep it fresh.

Well I have just played through the first 2 missions and didn't get any armour drops over lvl 18. What a load of crap. I expect to get something to show for completing and advancing in the game. The new DLC has just created additional crap to grind. FFS. Not worth £19.99 of my money that's for sure.

Are the first two missions significantly new, or just rehashed enemies and areas from the pre-existing game?

Pretty much. First is on earth. the boss basically has a sword of Crota and you have to kill him. It's level 22 on normal 28 on hard. Second boss is an ubber strong wizard you have to kill in waves of other enemies. Level 25 on normal 30 on hard. All my rewards were basically bounty completions which gave me motes of light and low grade weapons and armour. Completed first I hard and second on normal.

Just had a quick go, managed to buy my way up to lvl29 from 28 by getting new vanguard gloves and boots and playing for an hour or so to level them up a bit. I do think its a bit of a kick in the teeth for those who have put the hours in for the last few weeks/months for the raid armour and weapons to get to 30. I only have ~60 hours invested so far and I reckon i should be at 30 in a week or so after only playing 8-10 hours more, seems very unfair to me.

I'm new to mmo games, how do games like WoW handle dlc and leveling, it seems like if you don't keep spending you just get left behind?

The thing is it's you who is losing out - you won't now have the fun (?!) of learning the Vault of Glass, hoping to get the Raid gear so that you can then take on the hard mode and finally get to level 30 and get the gear that marks you out as a veteran player.

That was probably 30+ hours of some of the best gaming I've played that has been made pointless at a stroke by Bungie's decisions with the DLC.

I agree, I don't get a lot of gaming time and gradually got to lvl28 where I felt I could contribute in a VoG run, now its redundant frown

Completed everything but the raid for Dark Below this evening. Some really fresh new stuff, new gear is nice and working out the new weapons. The quests are a good addition too, meaty bounties basically.

Looking forward to starting Crota's End at the weekend.

Both new strikes are brilliant, the main one is the stronger one, but even the PS exclusive is good fun, with some 'new' areas. (we're always in the game but locked away, there is some genuinely new bits though).

Iron Banner again this weekend, and then the Trials are starting soon which sound interesting too.

Well, we managed to crack the first part of the new raid last night. By that, I mean the part to just get into the raid itself! hehe Quite a clever concept (I'll not spoil it for those that haven't attempted it) and frustrating but good fun in equal measure. I cannot see a way to cheese it, but I'm sure one will be found! smile

We called it a night having just got in. I know some of you fellas are going to crack on with this tonight (the next section does lock really good but also confusing!), but I'll not be on until Friday. I'll have the checkpoint if anybody is in the same boat.

I did manage to get 2 Radiant Shards. No idea what they are for, yet. smile

Politics aside, I think the new content is really good. It is quite cool to zoom into an area of the cosmodrome that has been seen a million times before, only for an up-to-now closed door, suddenly open, with a new arena inside. party

I've not even tried the new crucible maps yet.

So just got back to the game after a weekend away. Looking forward to see what the DLC was all about and whether it's worth the money. Looks to me like an instant money spinner.

I'm in two minds to scrap this game off.

Firstly it appears to have undermined all hard work so far, lv30 is the new hard on daily, missions and strikes. So without being lv30 I'll struggle doing the things I did every week - that means grind or buy the DLC. It also means my lower level characters are pretty much redundant without more and more grinding, or surprise, surprise buy the DLC. Added to the fact without the DLC there is no weekly or Nightfall. All I'm seeing is Bungie screaming buy DLC, buy DLC!!

I've just tried the daily hard, now a lv30 mission with my lv29 character and I struggled where as before I nailed it. Pretty much my only option is the raid or DLC.

Why do they keep changing the goal posts? After all the endless updates, downtime, game changes affecting gameplay I've had enough. All Bungie are doing is inconveniencing me. At least make it worth while.

I just feel like I've paid out full price for a game only to have to spend more money to unlock the full game now, why? DLC should be an add on, not affecting the original game in anyway. Bungie have tailored this so the DLC is needed, they might as well have stuck two fingers up to the loyal players. I really feel sorry for those so have really grinded in the game.

Hence why everyone is pissed off that the update has voided VoG and months of grinding.

Just wait until they release a patch so you can pay directly for a high level gear already maxed with full light. Wouldnt be suprised.

Didnt WOW do that?

All VoG stuff is now not max level. Knew Vanguard armour gets you to lvl31, and the weapons are higher damage too. It's to keep non DLC players more competitive among the lvl30 stuff.

I'm so glad they upped the levels on the weeklys/daily, they were too easy when you were level 30 and becoming a bit boring.

Still did last nights Nightfall at Lvl30 with only one orbit wipe, and having never done the strike before, but still. Wasn't quite the difficulty I enjoy but close enough.

Awesome work, well done! I was gutted I didn't see it through as it was clear it was only a matter of time but, after a good 10hrs gameplay yesterday, I was starting to get a bad headache!! I will be on tonight for sure so, will be taking advantage of that checkpoint others picked up hopefully smile

I think the radiant shards are specifically to upgrade raid armour/weapons.

I agree with you regarding the new content, I feel newly motivated by all the new stuff and the new raid. I totally understand how those not buying the DLC feel, I have a sense of it myself with all the raid armour I did my grinding for now becoming essentially redundant overnight. Having said that, I must have completed the raid a dozen times without getting a full set of armour whereas I know others who got the full set in just 2 or 3 runs. They didn't grind harder than me, they just got luckier so, I like the fact that I can purchase an armour boost before getting back to grinding in the new raid (hopefully I'll get luckier this time!)

The gear that other people have/don't have makes zero difference to my gaming experience (although, its nice when people in my fireteam have awesome weapons!!) so, level playing field or not, I intend to carry on regardless smile

Do you mean solo?! If so, I am mightily impressed. We managed it as a 3 without wiping but, all of us felt it was properly challenging (which made a nice change actually!)
