Right, trick to not loosing anyone in the last mission for me was to mind-control one of the mutons and etherals as soon as you enter the final fight. They then fight each other, while you just finish them off. Had to suicide my last muton with grenades to finish the round.
I'm bugged I cant get my people into the room to do the fight.

Though it sounds like I probably have unkilled enemy outside that could cause the problem. for some reason.

Do not move your first guy into the room all the way to the cover. I found moving them just beyond the door and ending the turn game me more room to move where I needed to once you trigger the end scenes

I slowly walked my guys a couple of squares at a time after reloading the weapons. By the time the cut scene cut in I had easy shots on the two mutons and one of the ethereal.

Yeah I done that last night.

Replayed the whole level/ship (rather gungho) then moved the entire team in in one go without triggering the baddies. Then unleashed the slaughter.

I tried this, didn't help much when 3 of the 6 of them got mind controlled. Still managed to do it though, lost a few people for the first time, figured it didn't matter much at that point though.

I didnt trigger the adds left / right.

I stayed back and mind controled the grunts

Then snipered the main guy, all over. Took a fair few shots due to his shield.

"gifted" soldiers located. Complex stuff we don't understand built. New blaster launcher nowhere near as fun as the old one.
Aliens pretty pissed off.

Fat lady warming up I suspect.

Probably a daft question, but is the attack of the Alien Base the last mission?
I've got everything I need to launch the attack (skeleton key, etc.) but I've been holding off the attack because I didn't want the game to end biggrin

Crap this game is hard. Thought I was doing OK, lost Australia but managed to launch my first (second?!?) satellite, takes quite a while to get those up frown

Then met my first beserker well 3 actually, and they proceeded to lay waste to my entire squad. Any tips? Seems to have a cliff-face of difficulty ramping up frown

Plasma guns work well against berserkers, as does a sniper. Keep him and some others on overwatch and lure the berserkers in to their line of sight with an assault.

My first berserker was a pain in the ass, now they're dead in no-time. Wait till you get to the sectopods.

I've kind of jumped the gun, I've not even hit a beserker yet, only the Mutons, (just checked online and realised I got the names wrong), I've only recently developed beam weapons, only a couple of units have them (lack of materials/cash to build more).

I must really suck at this game!

No you don't. Beam weapons (i.e. lasers) are effective against Mutons, but will be superseded by Plasma weapons pretty rapidly.

Nah, on your first play through, during most of the middle part of the game, you'll be precariously balanced on a knife edge of not enough money, materials and technology.

TBH I found the last sections a breeze compared to the middle part as my cash and technology made my squads very deadly and able to easily dispatch most Aliens. Think my hardest bit was the ground assault against my first battleship class UFO. I didn't have the tech or the squad size and was left with a slim victory and only one survivor.

Indeed. It's part of the fun. If you just steamrollered everyone it would be hugely less tense.

Again, agreed. I reached a plateau about the time I developed Titan (or better) armour, could use plasma rifles and had 8-10 decent guys who could shoot straight and not panic. In particular, my sniper was simply death from shadows.

At this point, there were about 2 months of missions that were not "how many people are coming back in bags?", but more "how can I finesse this?". Manipulating the firefight so the rookie on the squad gets the kills, thus promoting him? Stunning the ETs just for their weapons. Avoiding damage to downed ships thus claiming extra resources. Attempting a perfect terror mission (that one is harder than it looks).

I suspect it's about to get harder again.

Snipers with squad sight, plasma rifle and archangel armour is just to easy. I have started buying as many rookies as I can and sending 4 rookies with two colonel snipers. The snipers are just there to put anything down the rookies can't.

Great game to be sure, loving the battleships as well but don't get enough of them. Only had one so far.

Tried a terror mission with 4 assaults and two supports all in ghost armour. Makes them so quick and easy with alloy cannons.
