Sounds like you just like close quarters stuff. There are (as always) a mix of maps where different ranges are dominant, and all the better for it. If it were 9 maps like argonne I'd be very quickly bored.
One thing you can be sure about a battlefield game, is that people will play it to death while complaining about how crap it all is.
It's not so much big maps that I hate as it is big, poorly designed maps. I don't mind a bigger map with a good layout. Scar is quite good. Ballroom Blitz is great. One thing you can be sure about a battlefield game, is that people will play it to death while complaining about how crap it all is.
Monte Crappa is just awful. It feels likr a fellrunning simulator. You're always pinging from one objective to the next. None of them are particularly fun to fight around. You're either sitting on a hilltop getting sniped or dislodging campers in the bunkers.
Young Men's Work is fun around objectives C, D and E. G is far too far away from the action. Getting back to B and A from C requires a lot of legwork. Overall, it's not a great map but it could be better if the expanses of desert were removed.
Fao Fortress can be fun when the action swings between A, B and C but games there tend to be st as squads shuttle run around the far objectives.
The Italian countryside one is st (Empire's Edge?). Nothing redeeming about that.
Suez and Argonne are the standouts for me. Excellent level design that promotes bloody standoffs and sneaky raids on the far objective. Argonne is a particularly smart layout.
I'm quite enjoying the game after the new patch. My favoured LMG class has had a buff. It's now even easier to be MVP as the guns feel much more deadly. Now you can adequately lead an assault as well as supporting one. I've mostly been using the Lewis Gun LW, which is fking amazing. I haven't tried the Huot yet but I expect it'll be as disappointing as it was pre-patch. The game feels a lot slicker and smoother now, but I too had noticed the awful jagged edges on the LMG AA scopes. It still suffers from poorly balanced teams too. Blowouts are still happening regularly, not because of map design now - more to do with one team running a third more players than the other team and quickly causing a blowout.

Well we'll have to disagree. I like the variety and think they've done a good job. Siani is large and open and designed to promote vehicle, aircraft and horse use. FAO is interesting as you have the choice of trying to hold the fortress or the B/C area as a main point, but unless very dominant, you can't normally hold both for long. Monte I quite enjoy as the terrain means that you can't charge around flags so easily, you need to control the ground a bit and push forwards. Empires edge you need to control the central ridge and battles run up and down the sides of that, with the bottom flag at E there for attacking by boat. Suez I agree, though many complain that it's too linear, but it has nice positions to hold and attack. Scar and ballroom I'd agree, a good mix of ranges.Monte Crappa is just awful. DICE just don't see to know what they are doing with this game at the moment, the balancing swings widely with each patch. The maps are pretty poor though, some of them are decent but a lot of them are just downright boring or unbalanced.
The games I've pksyed have been 50- 100 points difference so pretty close.I have found quite a few glitches thou, driving along and the vehicle vanishes.

Those on pc, check out Jackfrag's infantry rifles only conquest server.
No shotguns, no smgs, no machine-guns just a huge iron site rifle battle.
Feels a lot more like WW1 than the main game. Just search for 'jack' in the server browser.
Swung in Jackfrag's stream last night after watch Stodeh on Twitch. Looked proper with the trench warfare. No shotguns, no smgs, no machine-guns just a huge iron site rifle battle.

MG-15 suppressive (with the 200 round magazine, bi-pod and scope) is my new favorite weapon! Managed to rack up my highest kill streak on Operations mode yesterday - player after player just running in to my arc of fire and with the comically large magazine you rarely get caught reloading. It can take down aircraft too if you aim accurately. Love it!
As for the maps, starting to get very bored now....was hoping Giant's shadow would be good but I'm largely disappointed.

On PS4 there are some fairly damning reports of teams with immediate respawn, ultra fast tanks also with immediate respawn. Ive had several incidents where there are no opposing players on my screen - tonight was Quentin Scar, small wall next to the flag at D, walked in, checked the corner - nothing, turned and was insta killed from a player crouching in the very corner! Tanks sneak up - no rumble, no noise they are pretty much invisible until they shoot then there it is! A bloody great tank on top of you with no where to go.
Yesterday saw one guy slide backwards into a wall so all you could see was the gun and a part of his head - this was after he shot me.
Also on some servers Im returnign fire at exactly the same time, yet my gun will cease to fire - or not fire at all - again showing that whats on the screen is not whats happening.
Another issue, quite a few times Ive gone to join a friend, screen says joining game then does nothing.Press options and it says in queue. Try and get out to join another server and it locks out completely needing a restrt of the game, Tonight my first game with a friend took 12 minutes to join, then as I shot the first enemy the screen flashed back to joining game, then dumped me out. Im trying, but its just a st game if youre not on with your mates, very few squads play objectives and many are just there for the K/D. Sway is the prime example of how to play, usually in the top few but often with only a handful of kills.

Yeah it's a beast...crap at close in stuff though. But on the right map it can own.One major reason why I don't play TDM!
I'll be honest, I'm a sad mid thirties family man with far too much stress at work. Can't go out on the lash or meet up with mates like I used to, as you know full well Steve you guys are a big part of my everyday social life!
One thing though - I focus massively on score per minute, and supporting the team. Rarely get positive k/d, but do make sure I'm targetting flags for the squad, healing, reviving and clearing bottlenecks with gas. Love the new squad leader mechanic, rare I'm not after the first few minutes.
I do notice some of the issues that you and Havoc rage about, to be honest they're secondary and transient compared to a dose of banter and swearing with like minded lads on chat... Plus there's always some comedy moments like last night when I jumped on the turret gun on Monte Grappa. Heavy tank shots could be seen over the hill, lined up. He created the horizon, could see my barrels aimed at him and desperately tried to reverse. Too late tosser, both barrels fked him and his entire squad up. Really, really hope that there's a forum somewhere where that moment lives on to haunt him, much like a single 15 second heli experience THREE fkING GENERATIONS AGO seems to have done for me!
