Question:
Should I buy and play Borderlands 1 before moving on to Borderlands 2 ?
I'm always a bit late on the uptake for games, but very keen player none the less.
I bought Fallout 3 and played it for about 80 hours the week after Fallout New Vegas was released, then bought FNV after about 6 months
See the pattern?
Anyhow, options..
PS3 btw

I jumped straight in with BL2, there are supposed to be quite a few improvements to the Gameplay, but by the sounds of it you might be better getting hold of the first one now it's cheap, playing through that and then getting the second one in a few weeks time once it's dropped in price a bit.Should I buy and play Borderlands 1 before moving on to Borderlands 2 ?

The second is a slicker overall package and builds on the story from the first.
But that doesn't really matter and it works by itself standalone.
However the first one is a great game - 2 is more of the same with extra polish.
I'd pick up the first cheap and see if you like it. If you do I suspect the prospect of having it and the second to play all the way through will be quite welcome
Maybe if you're planning multiplayer you might be better with 2 to make sure you have lots of people to play it with. No idea what the community for 1 looks like at the moment.

Level 29 Commando now, just done the 3rd round of Fink's slaughter house. Much easier now, but still a hairy moment here or there when the badass enemy flood the arena on all sides and there is precious little space to hide. I think it might be possible to do the 2 final rounds solo, but if not I've got a friend who is roughly the same level as me who I might be able to team up with.
I did the whole of Finks solo with a level 28 Gunserker, pretty easy tbh.If you go upstairs, there is a corner you can hide around and pick them off as they come round and let your shields/health recharge. There is a door there where they can spawn from, but they won't all the time you are stood there
Not sure if you mean not free or you are not a member?
Here is a link to say it should be free though.....

Gunzerker is probably the strongest character in terms of pure damage output and health, so the easiest solo it with. For the same reason, all the guides I've seen for defeating Terramorphous the Invincible recommend going in with a level 50 Gunzerker as his offensive capability is insane, coupled with his high hitpoints makes him very hardy in a fight. If you go upstairs, there is a corner you can hide around and pick them off as they come round and let your shields/health recharge. I'm fairly confident I can do it with my commando, going to do a few more missions tonight, then right before the final mission I will head back to the circle and do rounds 4 and 5.

I got a golden key yesterday for creating a SHIFT account and opened the golden chest at L24 and found the following inside:
Feel a little disappointed, although I guess the damage stats are quite high for L24.
The bottom one looks pretty good to me, the Jacobs pistols with a scope are excellent for chucking out the damage, they are only limited by how fast you press the trigger on fire rate, which can be very fast indeed if you put some effort in Feel a little disappointed, although I guess the damage stats are quite high for L24.

The bottom one is good and will probably last you until level 30ish, the top one is ok but will quickly be outclassed. Over the next couple of levels, pistols with those stats will be commonplace.Feel a little disappointed, although I guess the damage stats are quite high for L24.
I'm a bit annoyed with the assault rifles so far, playing as an commando it's supposed to be my main weapon, but I've found the pistols to be much stronger. It seems that the game drops weapons of the type that you are using to make you stronger and stronger while suiting your playstyle.
Unfortunately, I've still not found an amazing rifle. I've got a Ornery rifle weith 500+ dmg, 12 clip size and "as fast and you can pull the trigger", but despite having 90+ accuracy it still seems to wobble a lot while I'm aiming down the sights. Still, up close it works like a super melee weapon, if you get within a couple of feet of an enemy, ADS and spam the trigger as fast as possible, it's able to release a lot of damage quickly, but last night I found a Peacemaker that does 799 dmg with an 8 shot clip and it's rock steady down the sights, so pretty well outclasses the rifle I've got.
I also unlocked a great rifle for doing the "Demon Hunter" side mission that you get towards the end of the game, it's an 8 shot, 2599dmg sniper rifle with no scope on it, but at the moment with my stats it does an unbelievable 22000+ damage per critical, or 25000+ if I get the additional damage bonus when I've got my turret deployed. Awesome!
I really wanted to play with the mechromancer, but there's no way in hell I'm playing the whole game again.
I was sort of hoping you could switch all your points from one character to another, I played as Mordecai in 1 and loved the hawk, so I'm zero this time but mechromancer looks appealing too, sadly i find the first 15 levels or so utterly dull on a second playthrough, I didn't even get to captain Flynt before going back to my main character
