Eve online - nnnnoooooooooooooooo!!
Discussion
So I've just started playing again after a years break.
Just in time for BOB to be disbanded gotta say I had a big LOL at that one having been on the receiving end of the BOB/MC northern campaign that destroyed D2. I was in the P2-TTL battle and was getting about 1 frame every 8 to 10 seconds then got DD'd by a D2 Titan which was nice.
So the upshot is that I am currently looking for a decent corp not Goon or BOB (both are as arrogant as each other).
Basically im a trader manufacturer type with a surprising number of well researched bp's and my own R & D Pos. I am pretty used to living in 0.0 having been in PURE for quite a while before I left.
If anyone is in or knows of a corp that needs an industrial / logistics type then drop me an evemail to Finn'egan

So Apocrypha (the next EVE expansion) is now on test and has, amongst some good graphical improvements and the opportunity to rebalance your skill points, T3 ships.. anyone tested it yet?
Meanwhile back on the live server, if you live in 0.0, here's why you should never ever log out in a station:
Yes, those are anchorable bubbles.

Where do you log out in 0.0 if not at a station? Can these be destroyed so that you could log in a and find yourself as a new clone?Meanwhile back on the live server, if you live in 0.0, here's why you should never ever log out in a station:

I'm just getting into Eve and have actually sold some stuff that I manufactured for profit!! Woo hoo! But the darker, 0.0 side of Eve is starting to lure me lol!

In 0.0 you get conquerable stations and NPC stations. Stations, once built, can't be destroyed. The conquerable ones are captured by corps/alliances and they can set who can dock and who can't. NPC ones can be docked at by anyone. It's never a good idea to log off in a station in the middle of a war because you can get camped in by the enemy (generally a gang will wait at the undock and prevent you from warping, as soon as you try you become targetable and get blown up). This is the most extreme camp I've ever seen, but I gather it did what was intended (stopping Kenzoku members from undocking and docking)funkyrobot said:

If you log out in a conquerable station and the Sov changes then the Corp/alliance that gains Sov takes over the station. The normal upshot of this is that your standings with the station owner will usually go from +10 to -10 so you cant use any of the station facilities. This happened to me once, it means you have to shift your med clone if its there, kill off your Jump Clone if you have one there, get all of your stuff together in 1 ship and get the hell out of dodge. Preferably without dying which is easier said than done.
Tonsko thx for the ushrakahn info but I'm an Amarr so not practicable. Anyway had an offer from RAWR so it looks like I'm of to Tenal.
Now I know this has been used several times but this is a funny one about BOB being disbanded Clicky

find a lot of players in newb systems who offer the newbs some free loot, sort of it is in the can, just take it (and ignore their rather well fitted pvp ship at optimal range for weapons nearby)
if they truly want you to have it, get them to fleet you,
but then there is the fleet trap, eg corp A is at ware with corp B, often their alt. Corp A fleets u, warps u to a safespot where corp B will attack u for being in fleet with their war target - mostly happens to valuable haulers
do a mix of mining and missions, from the tutorial agent
if u find the mission too tough, ask in local, explain you are a newb, tell local the details and hope, will often have small t2 ships nearby on another alt so never an issue.
never hurts to let the players know your alt name in eve

What does newbie to the game need to know so i don't get killed?
Don't undock.....On a more serious note, as Tonsko said, do the tutorials. Otherwise, here are some tips that should keep your ship in one piece:
1) Go to your map settings, set autopilot to "Prefer safest route". This will keep you in systems with sec status of 0.5 or higher whenever possible. A lot of new players get caught out by gate camps in a low sec system when they didn't even realise they were in one.
2) Don't use autopilot. Learn how to travel manually. It's faster and also *might* save your skin when point 1 fails you.
3) Don't take anything out of any object that is yellow on your overview. Ever.
4) If someone ever steals anything from you, don't take it back, and don't shoot at them. Call them names in local if it makes you feel better, but even that is best avoided.
5) Never ever shoot at anybody. Only ever shoot at rats (red crosses in overview). Of course if you're in missions you'll be required to blow up the occasional structure too, feel free to shoot at that.
6) Don't use smartbombs. If you don't know what they are, then you know all you need to about them... for now.
7) Learn about tanking, there's lots of info available. You can shield tank, armour tank, speed tank, damage tank, etc.... choose one type of tank for your ship and stick with it, e.g. don't install a shield booster and armour repairer on the same ship at the same time. Either fit shield mods, or armour mods. Don't mix and match.
8) When fighting rats, warp out of the battle area as soon as your tank starts failing. e.g. if you are shield tanking, get out of there as soon as it is obvious that your shield is not coping with the rats' firepower. Get out, rethink, refit, then go back. Don't wait until they've got you down to hull damage.
9) When you're losing a fight, particularly with another player, pick a suitable object to warp to, and start spamming the warp button until you are either warping to that object in your ship or in your pod, or until you wake up in a medical centre.
Alternatively:
1) buy lots of cheap ships with cheap fittings. Fly around in low sec space all the time, get yourself killed a lot. Once you stop caring about being killed, and you start getting better at avoiding it, go back to high sec and learn how to make lots of isk.

This no longer works. Merely being in fleet with someone is not enough to get aggro to their war targets. You have to actively assist corp A (ie remote rep or something) before corp b will be able to shoot you as a war target.Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
