GT5 Production Cars Championship - Season 4
Discussion
I'll be happy with a third, especially having missed a week. Have to see how much I manage to turn up next season - but with that in mind, I'll pick some 'fun' cars.
Great races tonight.
Race 1 was a bit of a tussle to begin with, with Carmo, but the Evora was too hard to keep behind.
Then Mule caught up and thankfully (cleanly
) passed. He provided a good draft on the straight.
Something odd happened on the pit though. I entered about 40m behind Mule. Then he seemed to stop dead, and then I was right behind him. Mules pit crew had been bribed before the race, so I got out first. Unlucky Mule.
Then race 2 was a constant struggle to get past Adam. I needed a good draft on the straight and a late brake into turn 1 since I could easily outbrake him there. But I didn't manage it.
Thought I got him on the last turn into the straight, as then we also had to contend with F1. Great finish to a great season, with .22 seconds seperating 3rd, 4th and 5th.

This was by far the most fun I’ve had in this championship. It exceeds my battle with Dan in season 2.
Lap 21 on race 2 felt like entering a war, that was probably the trickiest part.
I’d like to thank Carmo, Fuel and Colin for some great racing. It was a blast.
Colin has yet again organised another great championship, if it ain’t broke…![wink](/inc/images/wink.gif)

I was so engrossed with the battle with F11, I didn't even realise he was pitting on lap 20 so forgot. Evora had a faster lap time in it, but the clio had the acceleration and straight line speed and F11 didn't make 1 mistake. Colin nearly finished me early on in his lovely late braking style
, but I hung on - just.
Would have been close on last lap if I'd pitted also.
Still great fun and I came first!!!!

Firstly, thank you to everyone for making it such a fun championship. I'm glad I stumbled into the thread and decided to join in.
So, my account of Race 1 and 2...
Race 1
My usual lame start, but slowly got into the rhythm and managed to match F1's pace. I think in Sector 1 he was quicker, Sector 2 I'd gain a bit, and Sector 3 was quite even. When I was close to get a toe, I quickly ran out of gears (I'd geared it for clean air as I didn't think I'd be close enough to F1 or Sam to get a good draft).
We had a good fight for most of the race - when I did pass for the lead, it only lasted one lap IIRC, I was a sitting duck on the straight when the Clio breezed past me.
After the pit stops, F1 pulled away, and I made a nice big error at the bottom of the hill, pointing any which way but straight, and Kiseca passed - the rest of the last lap was a case of just get it home without cocking up again.
Race 2
100kg of ballast was enough to slow my lap times to 1'12.0xx. For a lap or 2 I had a chance of picking up time while Colin, Carmo and F1 were battling - but they soon pulled away and I struggled to just drive consistently and avoid the undercut when I had to pit. Went into the pits in 5th, came out in 7th - I was a bit gutted, but I've always been awful when it came to getting a result with a heavy car.
The highlight for me would be the fight with F1; having never been quick enough to be fighting for the lead, against the Stig - it was nice to have a chance to fight it out. A couple of hairy moments into the first turn where I went down the inside and F1 closed the door on me, that worked the brake pedal quite hard
- when I did get past, had I got some clean air and out of drafting range, I might have been able to pull a gap (the time I gained in sector 2 each lap seemed to override the Clio's straight line pace). It wasn't to be, but it was the best I've driven this season, apart from the last lap lol
Either way, a brilliant season, I've made some great friends, and it's been super fun. Ta chaps![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
Now then, first night of Monaco practice for me when I get in from work today - one is pumped up for S5![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)

It was a lot of fun, Fuel. It was a great comparison between cars. You drove very well. I’ve been in your situation before; a faster car in tight turns, but with little chance to make the position.
I did catch you out a few times, mainly because I changed my line into one of the corners - I would have been caught out too.![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)
The highlights are going to be quite something.

Yeah I certainly enjoyed that! Delighted to get 2nd in race 1 - it was fortuitous but I'm not going to let that stop me thinking I'm awesome ![wink](/inc/images/wink.gif)
Nearly threw it away on lap 3 passing Adam into corner 1 when I overcooked it, I see Adam also had a bit of oversteer (probably trying to avoid me) so couldn't take advantage on the exit.
Quite a fall to then follow it up with 9th in race 2 without having any particular timewasting incidents, but that did go to show how competitive everyone was in that race, noone finished a lap down and 3rd to 5th was an incredibly tight finish. I did seem to fall back quite a bit in the pitstop, it took me until lap 15 to catch up to Mule but he was driving really wall, very consistent and no mistakes, and we had a good battle for a few laps, which he won in the end. It was some great and consistent driving from Mule there. I spun out on the last lap but by that time I was already too far back, Mule already had it in the bag, so it made no difference.
Funny how skittish the Elise then felt when I took the ballast back off for the 5 lap event afterwards!
