Found a nice way on Arma 3 wasteland, if you go to the settings in steam you can download the Dev build. The hackers don't seem to know about it, and there were not many on the normal Alpha build anyhoes that I seen.

Since Monday the normal alpha had an update released and it screwed up the multiplayer servers so they crashed after about 20mins TOPS!! But the Dev build server I've been playing today was up over 24hours! And people were working as a team.

Only downside is it seems my headset has died so going to have to see if I can grab one tomorrow after course in the office. Spent 2hours today trying to get my car dug out and moved ~100m onto the main road, in the end I got a tow from a passing pickup driver for the last 10m. I also dug out a bus.

I've been playing DayZ for a few months now and still love it. I think it helps playing with a like minded bunch of folks, I found the Fogeyz to be very accomodating with their own private hive for the popular maps and they organise a few events.

I'm trying to get the next event to be a cat'n'mouse game - the cat is in a huey and the mice are in ATV's with a 5min head start.

Link for the Fogeyz here

OK so I finally installed the Arma 3 Alpha... Did some single player missions then logged online for some gunnage. First server I logged onto, within 10 seconds I was being flown around the map...

Same old Arma then rolleyes

Any of you guys playing it much?

I've just started my first tentative steps into DayZ.

I haven't figured out the inventory yet. I can't use bandages - which is a pain as I keep being swiped by zombies. Keys are all at default.

You have to get the gear menu up. I use the scroll wheel then select gear, or i think the g key brings it up? and the right click on the bandage and it should give you the option to bandage. The inventory is pretty clunky and will drive you mad.

I was thinking of getting it but is it really that much better than Arma 2/dayz?

Sorry missed this.

I've barely played it to be honest.

Does anyone still play Dayz? I have just started playing again as a bicycle paramedic on a 100 player public hive. People are dieing every few seconds but I have yet to be killed other than when my tractor crashed and exploded.

How many bicycles do you come to the rescue of? hehe

I'm hooked on Wasteland at the moment - find it more 'military' with a lot more vehicle interaction and a greater number of types of weapons but still has similar survival elements to DayZ without the zombies, which I found just became an annoyance rather than a challenge.

Only play on a specific 'Hardcore' server with first person only etc... - it's not hugely busy but the quality of the people playing tends to be very high - which is great if they're on your team or means you have to be very, very wary when they're not.

Me and Slaney are still around playing wasteland, occasionally messing around on Island life (Another Arma2 mod), we tend to play on PapuWarfare because it saves your player and also locked items (Ammo caches and base materials) but a first person wasteland sounds good, does it save kit?

I noticed someone's started a port of it over to Arma 3 but it doesn't really look usable yet going by the videos that I watched the other day. Still banned from Arma 2 and not really willing to buy another CD key though, so won't be going back to it.

Still hoping for good things from the standalone game when it appears... fingers crossed. After playing Wasteland (albeit Arma 3 only, never tried on 2) and a few other mods, nothing has come close yet to the way DayZ seemed. The first while playing it with Matt and Luke were fantastic because hackers weren't really an issue, and as everyone else started playing together it was great to go on adventures and learn the map. There were a lot of really brilliant moments in there!

If they could make the standalone one actually work, so saves what it needs to in tents, doesn't have you spending 6 hours collecting stuff only to lose it all, doesn't have everyone die because some 12 year old thinks it's funny, then it could be amazing fun.

I haven't seen wasteland on Arma 3, but it is effectively Dayz without zombies and more vehicles / guns, the general idea is to collect building materials that sit in and around towns, walls, miniture bases, bunkers and create a base for your team, missions will then pop up every 5 and 10 minutes I believe (Side and main missions) for an armoured vehicle like an SUV with a minigun on the top, this will be defended by AI but you'll also have to deal with the other team and the independent "team".

Its great fun on a server that saves or on a server with around 20 players so you can build a smaller base and trust each other, at the moment you find bases get left open because someone leaves and doesn't close the door, or they just come in, steal your stuff and take it to their base.

I would also take a look on somewhere like MPGH or whatever it is and buy a CD key for $3 (I have had keys last a week and I still have one which is about two months old)

Alas, no. It doesn't save kit or structures but the servers are stable and reset every 12 hours - plenty enough time to build something decent and have some really good team battles over mission sites.

I'll check out the PapuWarfare sever - I take it its good?

Applied for whitelist anyway- always good to have options. Btw - new profile is called '007' - I was getting followed around too much by fanboys (yep, seriously!) on the hardcore server and I got completely pissed off with idiots driving or running right up to my position after I'd stalked someone for ages. Changed the log in and play Indy only.

I have mixed feelings over it, the save system is obviously custom made as the wasteland mod doesn't come with saving, so its a little buggy, takes a few minutes to save your player, so you can sometimes find yourself back in the last town if your game crashes, but other than that, its quite reliable however, one issue with the delay is that if you drop your money, log to lobby and come back in it'll dupe your money meaning the shop prices are pointless and people often have AS50's etc but its certainly busy, 30+/75 most of the day and maxes at evening GMT.

Whats the name of the server you play on? We'll have to have a game together again, there are a couple of other people who we play with from the SOMC community (The community Muska is part of), it would be nice to play on a server where people take it a little more seriously.

If you filter for 'Arma2.RU' - you'll get a set of servers come up - look for the one that is listed as No4 - Hardcore.

There's some really good ruthless players on it. They've also introduced the Yellow Filter toggle which makes the game look so much better. Also has NPC fighter aircraft so you have to be dame good in a heli to escape and/or shoot the buggers down.

I think it's pretty much the same as Arma 2 Wasteland but just not quite as mature. It also tends to be full of fannies, but had a few good games when people do decide to work together. Obviously playing with people I knew would make it very different.

Moving down to Bristol next week and won't have internet for a while, but when I've got that sorted I will take a look and see if I can get a key then.

I'm really struggling with Day Z at the minute server wise.

I got back into playing it a couple of months back and loved it, but the server I was on changed quite a bit (admin made lots of changes) so i'm homeless.

For me, vehicles area big part of it. I am trying to find a server with sufficient vehicles and where they are not all hoarded away. Every server i touch either has no vehicles that i can find after looking for an hour or two, or the total opposite where they are littered down the road between chern and elektro so there is no challenge.

I don't expect finding a vehicle to be easy, but i do want to be in the situation where if i hunt around some major areas for half an hour or so i'll probably find one. Dont mind having to find the odd wheel for it etc...

This doesn't seem like too much to ask?

Anyway, any suggestions for servers would be appreciated!

The Origins and Epoch mods seem to have tons of vehicles, have you tried them?

Only had a brief poke around on epoch, not enough to do it justice that's for sure. Perhaps I should take a look.

Thing is, I was happy, I was in a great place with normal Day Z, I just want to get back there lol. And again, it's not loads of vehicles i want, just enough. I'm difficult to please I guess.

I did find what appeared to be a great server except that you spawned with a AK-Kobra I think it is. That's just silly!

Dean chatting about Standalone, looks like the release is coming with no vehicles or military weapons. Which is good IMO!
