Dean chatting about Standalone, looks like the release is coming with no vehicles or military weapons. Which is good IMO!

Its starting to look far too arcade and War Z like for me, I think they are doing wrong by moving away from Arma, the only reason I can see to choose DayZ over WarZ is one is based on a Mil sim, the other is based on a horrible arcade shoot em up, other than that, zombies are zombies and guns are guns.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tc_C6ylIK_w
Bought Arma 3 Alpha last week and been playing some Wasteland, great fun and amazing graphics compared with Arma 2. Anyone else from here playing?
Looking forward to DayZ Standalone, gave DayZ Mod another go and hard to get back into - Zombies seem much harder! Breaking Point seems about the same as old DayZ but Wasteland soon took my attention away

I think I'm all setup to play this now. I downloaded all the components last night, got them installed in the right places etc.
Do most people use the Six Launcher to launch the mod? Seems pretty efficient at what it does.
I had a quick game last night, literally 5 minutes. It was dark and I was scared!
Do PH'ers still play the DayZ mod then? Once I get up to speed it would be great to get some online play with PHers.

I have the .pbo file downloaded for Wasteland, just not entirely sure where to extract it to for a Steam installation.
Wasteland uploads from the server (on the boggo multiplayer page) - not sure I've ever needed a .pbo file.Another thumbs up for the Sa-Matra servers, they seem to perform much better and are set up a little more fun than the others.

Probably a daft question, but 'any tips'?!
My first thought is to just run around and see what's going on so I can get a good feel for the game/Zeds. I don't really want to drop prone and crawl 5 miles in 4 hours then have to turn it off.

That's about the right way to do it :-)Assuming you're all set up in day z commander or what have you so you can find servers and/or launch a game?
I might get shouted at for being a dirty scoundrel, but if you're not unemployed/a student with 10 hours a day to spend on the game, you may find this map very useful:
http://dayzdb.com/map
The map is huge, you won't know where anything is and you won't have a clue where to look to start finding it.
When you spawn, keep an eye on the bottom right hand corner of the screen and it should tell you where you are. After that, use the map and find a few high value buildings and you'll start to see what the game is like.
Sorry if anyone doesn't agree with this, but I know for myself and other's i've spoken to, there just isn't time to learn all the map on your own.
ETA:
Also, kick the missus out of the room, turn the lights off and play the game with headphones :-) The atmosphere is one of my favorite parts of the game

Wife is out. Light is off. I'll stick to speakers though otherwise I'll be cacking myself!
Here we go.

Jesus Christ.
One of the best concepts I've played in years. Puts most of the "AAA" rinse and repeat titles to shame
It's a shame that it looks like the standalone is going to be a bit sanitised.
The beauty of the Arma2 version is that the base platform can be extremely unforgiving and it makes the game very, very edgy.
Once you think you've got it sussed - try a hardcore server where you only have 1st person view etc...

Interesting, why do you say sanitised? The beauty of the Arma2 version is that the base platform can be extremely unforgiving and it makes the game very, very edgy.
I haven't been following the development of the standalone that closely, though I intend to get it as soon as the alpha/beta becomes available.
From what I've seen though, it looks good? I was concerned to read that there might not be vehicles at first. I hope it also retains the ability for those who run servers to tweak them (add buildings, number of vehicles etc....)
Really the main thing i want from the standalone is for zombies not to be able to walk through walls anymore and them to get rid of some other major bugs!
