Ooo, no I haven't got that chest with any of my characters - I shall be investigating that over lunchtime! Thanks for the top tip. Icebreaker here I come (erm, hopefully)
Sadly, I didn't get a strange coin from that chest from either character, so started on the weekly strike thinking it would matchmake with someone (it doesn't). Got battered on the second wave of enemies whilst decoding some box or other but did get a blue engram drop which decoded into a strange coin! Wahey, Icebreaker now purchased and it's bloody excellentAlso got a Payback SOS legendary auto rifle for levelling the bounty dude which sprays bullets but fails to hit much Still, happy days and much more than I've had so far in the game. Also hit level 26 which was nice.

It was a long time ago that I got my coin from that chest so, it may have changed since then. I'm impressed that you (unwittingly) attempted to solo the weekly heroic strike as a level 25?!! Outstanding effort, I am glad that RNGesus rewarded you with the Strange Coin you needed for even trying!

Productive day for me, what with Xur finally selling the Icebreaker as well as an Exotic helmet for my Warlock, leveled him up from 18 - very nearly 26 Another character for me to do the raid on when he gets a tad higher, having VoC, IB and Hunger of Crota on a level 25 certainly makes the strikes a lot easier!
I've also got enough Vanguard marks to buy a piece of legendary armour (legs to replace my blue stuff). Is this a good way to spend them, or should I put the marks into a gun of some sort? The leg armour seems to get me an awful lot of light (+9 from where I am now, plus another 9 when levelled I think)

If it's replacing blue stuff, then yes, buy the vanguard legs.Once you start raiding either Vault of Glass or Crota, stop buying anymore stuff from the vendors (except exotics from Xur) - those two raids alone will give you good weapons and armour.

How sad am I?
Cant wait to get home to "buy" and Icebreaker and the Obsidian mind helm.....
Been counting down the minutes.
Might buy two in case one breaks.......
I'm in the same boat. Icebreaker is the one weapon I've been waiting for. It's simply not fun choosing Invective and waiting 2 minutes for it to generate a clip of ammo and then selecting a sniper to fire a few rounds with. Hunger of Crota is *almost* as good as Ghallawhatsitthingy so I'm more than happy to wait for RNGesus to smile upon me.Cant wait to get home to "buy" and Icebreaker and the Obsidian mind helm.....

RE Gold Chests - No chest necessarily has the same thing in, it's the order in which they're opened. It's the final Gold Chest on Mars that has a Strange Coin in.
If anyone's desperate for coins they drop regularly for getting gold rating on your first public event of the day, or it's mote of light, both plus glimmerBrite spark said:

Just what are Motes of Light used for? I seem to be collecting them but haven't found a use for them.
Buy stuff off the speaker, mainly pointless, think some xur purchases are mote of light.I think I already know the answer to this but, I'm hoping that I'm wrong!
I quite fancy getting myself the TFWPKY 1969 legendary Hand Cannon, available from the crucible quartermaster. Is there any way I can do this now without actually participating in the crucible?! I know that you used to be able to swap materials for marks - is there an equivalent non pvp method these days?
If there isn't any alternative, how long would it realistically take me to reach crucible rank 3? I very much doubt I would want to play any more than a couple of games a couple of times a week. How much rep do you get for each game of control, for example?
The only bounties I would pick up would be the ones that only require participation, rather than a huge amount of success.
TO be honest, I'll probably decide ultimately that it isn't worth the grind for just one gun but, I'm just curious as I probably need to overcome my hatred of pvp for when I next pick up an exotic bounty.

I'm sure someone will come along and quantify it for you, but from experience, level 3 will take too long for you playing a couple of games a week. If you don't like PvP the grind to level 3 won't be worth it. You need to spend a good amount of time finding which character to play and then the load out which suits.
You need to get over your initial dislike for it, have a particularly good game, then it clicks. It's a bit of a catch 22. You need to get good (reasonable) to enjoy it, yet you're not going to enjoy it until you're good.
Try it and stick with it. Someone of your calibre must be scratching around for things to do come Monday.

Agreed, it's not a particularly great multiplayer experience for a AAA game, but it's enjoyable - once you get the hang of it.You need to get over your initial dislike for it, have a particularly good game, then it clicks. More than happy to show you the ropes Speckle if you like, we could concentrate on 3 v 3 games so with the two of us working together we should have a bit of an advantage. Will probably take something like 10 hours of playing to get to rank 3.
Very different to PvE though - you can actually do very well by being stealthy and patient. You'll need to learn to love shotguns and fusion rifles too!
