Any of you chaps received your order after they ran out of stock? I'm just wondering if I can be bothered to wait for them to restock or whether I should just go to the shops.
Turns out the wife is in town so she's picked me up a copy and I've cancelled my order.

I take it you aren't having the online troubles with this as you seemed to have with gtr?

Splendid. I'll get practicing.

I understand that the cars get unlock progressively as you play... how does this affect the online game? Is everyone running about in minis or are you unlocking everything first?

Did you have to ask her to, or she did out of the kindness of her heart?

Whilst waiting for my copy I decided to download the demo and have a play.

Unfortunately it runs like an absolute dog on my system. It's fine coming out of the pits and along the first straight but as soon as I go round the first corner the framerate drops to 9 fps and it becomes undrivable. I've dropped the resolution to 640x480 and set everything to the absolute minimum but it makes no difference.

Did anyone else have a problem with the demo? I hope its just a bug in my download that the full version will cure

That's a major plus point for me, I can't stand waiting for anything but GTL loads in a flash.

think this came up before - try setting the shader level to Direct X 7 instead of 9 and see if it helps.

Yep. What GFX card do you have Diver? If it's an NVidia "FX" model it doesn't do Directx9 or 8 very well so run in DX7.

Then go into your PLR file and change "Show Motec in car = "1" to 0 and then the Show HUD in car to "1" that'll also give you more FPS.

There's also a tweak for the virtual mirror FOV to make it more realistic, I used it on GTR so will work here too. I'll dig that out later.

Erm, I asked her to.

Good game though. Got through the 1st mini race 'series' and the drift kings won and will be moving on from there. I like the progressive nature of the game rather than getting everything at once but this will obviously restrict me to a degree when I come on line which will be soon (maybe tonight if there's anything going on).

Graphics were crap in default mode so changed it to dx8 and upped the res to 1024x??? and now it looks really good.

This, to me, is better than gpl or gtr because I just love the way I can trail brake and then drift around corners in that cortina. I know some of you could do it in gpl but it always seemed to end in tears for me. I found GTR a bit too clinical. Can't stand that bloody mini though - one trick pony.

Managed to tweak the AI to my liking last night so that I can compete at Professional Level. Bit of a cheat, I know, but I want to drive against the Pro AI because I expect they're better overall than the Semi-Pro (or lower) AI, so I've slowed them down a bit in the corners, and we now have some cracking races! Completed the first set of cups which opens up a whole load of good stuff

Bought myself a Griffith and had a blat round Spa, and it was bloody wonderful

I am onto the second set of cups too now... completed two of the championships within that... I've bought a 911! its a bit scary. Much livelier than the GTR 911s .

I like the mini but I think dern is right - one trick pony, but it does it's trick very well!

Professional AI are a bit too fast for me but the semi-pro ones are too slow

anyone up for some online racing tonight/this weekend?

yeh I did Diver, mind you, you got further than me, mine would'nt even load alll the track, it got to about 3/4 loading then froze the PC (P4 2.8ghz / 512 ram / 128mb card

think it was the demo version though more than anything as I have the full version now, and even before upgrading my GX card it seemed to run at low res ok.

Go get it Diver its soooooo much better than GTR, smacks of GPL in a big way....

eh? That's the same spec as I've got, and it runs perfectly OK at 1280x1024x32 using DX9 at > 40fps just about everywhere. Is it running ok for you now?

I would be tonight if there's a few of us.

Currently I only have the tina, the mini & 40,000 credits... what's the best thing to do to play online? Can I sell the tina and the mini and buy them back later - do they depreciate?

Also, are there any game patches or is everyone still on 1.0?

I found that to start with, but you can tweak the AI by editing the following values in your plr file:

AI Brake Power Usage="0.98000" // Fraction of theoretical brake power that AI attempt to use
AI Brake Grip Usage="0.97000" // Fraction of theoretical brake grip that AI attempt to use
AI Corner Grip Usage="0.93000" // Fraction of theoretical cornering grip that AI attempt to use

This slows them down around the lap without limiting their straight line speed, which keeps a semblance of realism for me.

Can't remember what settings I've got in there now, but I think I knocked about 3 or 4 off each to get Pro down to a level I could compete with. Experiment...

Oh, this doesn't seem to affect qualifying by the way, and you'll find that the AI seem to slow a little as the race progresses (tyres, maybe?) so give them a full race before re-tweaking...

I had other issues as well Mark, reigistry, viruses (100), 58 processes running etc

fine now though PC has new lease of life now I've installed System Mechanic and installed a Ge Force 7800 GX card (without knackering everything)

max graphics on all games smoothly, much easier to drive as well still can't catch Ian though  mind oyu if it's not him it's FWD or you..... if it were'nt for those pesky kids.........
