Is it possible to use the '79 mod with the trial version of rFactor, or do you need the full version?

You could try, but I doubt it since rFactor is designed to be modded and that's the idea behind the game. They'll have disabled something important.

I'm getting a can't load track error on Kyalami 79, has it been updated ?

make sure you go to www.rfactorcentral.net (or .com) and get the graphics update for the 79 F1 mod or the PH server won't let you join!

Just bought rFactor and decided to give these a try. I find them easier under braking than the GPL cars, but they're tricky on the throttle and I can't really slide the car in any sort of controlled fashion yet Tyre temperature seems to make a huge difference, you really can't go at all fast on cold tyres. Qualifiers seem to have absolutely loads of grip too.

What sort of lap times were people doing round Kyalami? I don't mind not being quick, but I'd rather not fall into the dangerous road block category before having a stab online

I think they're more complex to drive because of the downforce effect. In GPL you just had the mechanical grip, with the '79 cars you have this and the grip that varies with speed. It seems if you go quicker round a corner you slide less than if you go slower (within reason!) which doesn't feel natural and takes getting used to! scratchchin

And a reminder to all with the 79mod demo, just in case you haven't read about it, it says "do not use the uninstall program to delete the demo" as it was rushed out and deletes the entire rFactor folder. When the full mod in finished I'd manually delete the season79 folder, 79talent and mod79 sounds folder.

I think you're right, seems you can carry a lot more speed into bends than you'd expect from the way the car feels when you go in slower (if that makes sense...). You need to be quite confident with the car, which is tricky when you're just starting out.

Riiiiiight. I have finished my own experiments into which car is quickest by running all 4 cars at Kyalami. And I have to say they are pretty close, might be different on other circuits but here they are very similar. And the suprise to me was that the Ligier seemed to be the fastest for me there, it was certainly the easiest for me to set a quick time. Maybe because it's the only one with 6 gears?

In order:-
Ligier - 1m08.5s - www.mercia.biz/rfactor/Kyalami-FWD-Ligier-1m8-5s.Vcr
Ferrari - 1m08.7s - www.mercia.biz/rfactor/Kyalami-FWD-Fer79-1m8-7s.Vcr
Williams - 1m08.8s - www.mercia.biz/rfactor/Kyalami-FWD-Wi79-1m8-8s.Vcr
Renault - 1m9.0s - www.mercia.biz/rfactor/Kyalami-FWD-Ren79-1m9-0s.Vcr

Granted each time could just be my driving, I think the Williams lap was pretty scrappy I think I slide around a bit but I it's still an interesting result to see there's very little difference between all four cars. It's going be great when all the other cars are finished the Lotus, Brabham, McLarens and the rest

Yes but Rick is a -68sec GPL Rank driver, that's 26s quicker than me
