how the hell do you do that? my best is 1:50. i use the lotus but i do have throttle and gear assist on. could that be costing me 12s per lap? my braking, apexing and cornering simply cannot be done any quicker - is there a secret?

Using throttle assit and auto gears will slow you down. Being in the correct gear for a particular corner is crucial and you need to be able to steer the car on the throttle, which throttle assist won't let you do.
You may as well turn off all these aids as you won't trully learn how to drive in GPL with them on - they just get in the way!

'PO' mean that someone is 'Pitting Out' - a car is about to emerge from the pit lane, so if you are about to pass the pit lane exit - watch out!

WOW! just tried some laps of brands and ive taken off 3 secs just by turning off auto shift. not only that but the car feels more 'alive' and im not skidding off so much. - now for throttle assist...

Best car to start with is the Cooper / Coventry as it is much more forgiving - Lotus is quicker but more of a handfull.

My times are still a bit poor at 1.42.5 - however I did find 2 seconds by turning the variable steering on in the core INI

Did about 30 laps of Brands last night and managed a best of 1:51 in the Ferrari, but this was with all the aids on and auto gears

Now I know my way round Brands, tonight I'll stick it on manual, switch off the aids and am confident of a sub 1:30 I'll also download VROC and try to set that up.

When we race do we all pick the same car/ any car and is damage on or off, and is it in beginner mode or advanced. Questions, questions........

I got bored this afternoon and made a WMV video of a lap of Brands Hatch.

Right click and Save As if you want to see it (5.3MB)

Ignore the colour coruption on the arms, I think it's a part of the conversion to WMV (to make it smaller). Won't do that again.

Ok heres a replay of my best effort so far. Its a complete fluke and over 1s faster than anything else I've done though... You can see what happens on the second lap if I try and go faster

There are a few replay to AVI/MPEG apps out there. I just used GPL2AVI you start it up, tell it where GPL is and what settings you want, then start GPL from it. Go to replay play and record the reply and save.

I've also downloaded GPL Moviestudio but not looked at that yet.

Arrrggh Just spent 30 laps practising without any driver aids and now I can't get below 2:00

I'll see you all at 8pm with all the aids switched back on. I'll be the car at the back being lapped after approximately lap 6
