The loltractors were great games. Scarebird and I were talking on Mumble so we tried to follow you around. Seeing your loltractor in the heavy battle was hilarious. I will definately be up for some more of those games, it would help if you had a mic as it really makes the game worthwhile as you can actually work as a team.

If they allowed platoons of more than 3 then that team would steamroll the free to play randoms. Clanwars is for that sort of thing.

Yeah had a few. Its annoying when you get a couple of criticals on a bigger tank and you are just about to finish him off then a team mate pops him for you! also really sick of getting put into loddies with MUCH harder tanks. you pop them with a green marker 5 or 6 times and nothing!!! GGRRRHHHHHH
You think that’s bad! I spend many hours getting and upgrading my VK 4502 (P) Ausf. B, and it has the 12.8cm Maus gun – the biggest in the German tech tree, and this still sometimes lets me down; not much health with a fight to the death with an IS-4 – he has 1% HP left – I fired TWO shots to finish him, and both did not penetrate and almost point blank range! All other times, it wipes off 25-30% off the IS tanks, and over 50% on smaller heavies! I have been killed so many times in the same way – my shots (on my 63k research gun) deciding that they’ll bounce off in critical situations.

Finally got my KV last night. What do you reckon, 107mm gun or the infamous 152mm "trollcannon"?

Starting to get the hang of my light tank now, and enjoying having the speed to nip about. However I don't see many light tanks about is there any point leveling a light tank?

I dont see lights being used very well in thsi game. I try and do it but its hard in the open loddies. I allways thought they have a dual role. To secure ground quickly with their high speed and great manouverability. THis then allows the heavies to move up and hold / clear the area. The other thing i think Lights are great for, is what i try and do with mine as the T-26 isn't very fast, is act as fire support / cover fire for the heavier tanks. I had a great kill last night while two team mates where pounding the sh!t out the heavy tanks in fornt. Some little guy came around the back and 2 shots (from me) later and he was dead.

There is a total lack of team play in this game though. you get the odd one holding back to cover your own base. and everyone just runs off. I try and follow the heavies and do what little damge I can to anything i see. I must have been playing COD far too much though as i seem to be right in the thick of it all the time! lol

Just a note to the berginers looking for XP / Credits. I think you can put more than one tank into battle at once. obviously you can only control one at a time but if you team wins then you still get the credits! smile

Has anyone got a breakdown of what you actually get cerdits / XP for? I manged to get a couple of kills and still only got about 2500 credits at the end of the game.

Also how easy is artilary to use? I often see they manage to pop off 3 or more tanks in most games! sounds like a pretty effective but i have never used one. are they easier / hard than normal tanks?

thanks,

Chris.

Tankrizzo got for the 107mm, the 152mm takes around 23 seconds to reload even with a rammer. Get both anyway the 152 is hilarious as it will one shot a lot of tanks but is mainly good on urban maps where you can hide while it reloads. The KV needs a decent gun before its any good, the peashooter you get at the start is laughable. Get suspension first then look at getting the 122mm while you build XP. Research the 2nd turret but don't put it on until you get one of the big guns. Then go for the engine upgrades as its slow as hell anyway.

Cheers Derek, I've got quite a lot of free XP so I thought I'd upgrade some elements of the KV before jumping into it. I spent some gold training my crew to 100% as well. The 152mm sounds like an absolute hoot, but that reload time.....!!

Chuntington, the main ways to get xp/cash are damage not kills, spotting and capping. If you do 99% damage to a tank then someone else kills it you get way more xp. Its also better to win by capping than killing all the other team.

Artillery is great fun although you are really weak you have massive firepower. You are reliant on your team spotting targets for you though. If your team camps then you can't do much as you are too weak to be driving around the battlefield. You press shift to get a top down view of the battle field and you get a targetting circle which is quite slow to aim. If you move your aim around 5 degrees to track a target you have to wait while it shrinks again. The 2nd level russian arty has a turret and is a complete beast as you don't need to re-aim with it. I still have mine and it has over a million credits worth of kit on it, I love using it as its such a animal. You have to be prepared to move up the battlefield as the game unfolds.

Thanks for clearing that up on the XP / Credits. Its very anoying when you dont get a kill but i guess if im dissing out a fiar old bit of damage in my little old T-26 then that will keep me happy. Although its a bit of a switch form COD games where your K/D ratio is often EVERY important to how the game unfolds. I did watch one guy in something big and Russian that got about an 8 kill streak and basically braought our team back from the brink of death. Cant rember what he was using but it was 1 shot killing most things! lol

Once i get my T-46 i think i will lokok into the atry stuff. sounds fun.

also how do you get gold? do i need to sign up for a premium account? i have been on for over 24 hours and not got anything.

Chris.

You have to pay for gold, which you can then use to get a Premium account, buy premium tanks/shells, or train your crews up/buy special equipment and so on.

One thing worth noting is that premium gives you twice the XP and credits per battle of free, it's the main reason I got it....makes the grind so much easier.

The big Russian tank that destroyed evrything probably had a big boxy turret on it with a big gun? It was probably a KV which I love, I once saw one who was our last man defend our base from capture. He took out ten tanks on his own and won the game.

You buy gold in the top right corner. You can buy a Premium account which gives you 50% extra XP and cash in battle and you can form platoons. Or you can convert it to cash. Or you can use it to convert some to XP. For instance if my main tank is destroyed early I can jump into another battle with my LOLtractor or lower tiered tank and earn XP. I can convert the low level tanks xp into xp that I can use. You can also buy extra slots, better ammo, tanks and training when you buy a new tank which is useful.

Awwww it would have been a KV then. Was amazing and was aking more like a Challanger 2 or Albrams A1 (the one with the 120mm smooth bore gun) in the way it was demolishing everything! lol

How much is it to buy the premium account? (im not a tight *rse just at work and cant check lol). Def. sounds worth doing if only for converting XP and the 50% extra to help reduce the grinding (soooooooooo bad on this game).

Thanks again for the help chaps. you lot dont half know you stuff! lol

Think the cheapest lump of gold is about a fiver. Up to you to then decide how to spend the gold - premium account for so many days, convert free experience etc.

Also tried the Artilary stuff. its pretty fun. as im only starting i tend to sit a little behind the advancng tanks and support them as much as i can. Any tips on where to hide or tatics?

Can't help you with arty Chris, I've never played it. There's some good info on the WoT forums about arty tactics though.

God the stock KV is AWFUL. Just managed to upgrade suspension and gun to 122mm HE but the penetration is rubbish - 61mm - I would have been better off staying with stock 76mm until I had enough to get either 107mm or derpgun. Just researched the KV2 turret as well.

Derek what path did you go after KV? KV-3 or KV1S?

I've always felt KVs were pretty easy targets, along with hetzers. Then I played a hetzer and really enjoyed it, so maybe it's mostly down to the player..... tier 9/10 russian stuff is a nightmare to fight though!

I went KV3 Tankrizzo, it makes the KV seem a bit fragile. You will only use the Derpgun for novelty value. The 107 is good and you can start off with it again if you go KV3.
