The 90mm might not look amazing, but somehow it turns the ELC into a really deadly thing. Sure it is inaccurate and slow reload, buy it can really lay on the hurts in the late stages of a game. Wonderful tank in many respects - unforgiving certainly but get it right and its amazing. If you come up against an Achilles in it (are they on the Xbox yet?) then just drive right up to the front of his tank and sit there. He doesnt have the gun depression to get you and you can just sit and shoot and shoot, he is powerless.

I've been pleasantly surprised by the Challenger, tier 7 Brit TD. I was expecting it to be not so good, seeing as it was the same gun as on the Achilles but a tier higher, and having found the Achilles a bit underwhelming. I was wrong though - its a really strong performer. The gun actually seems to work much better than on the Achilles, and the rate of fire is insane. It also has much far more gun depression, which makes it a deadly ridge stalker. Really pleased with it, and now looking forward to the rest of the grind in this line.

Also have been platooning with Kozzy at tier 8 - it seems the STA-1 and T69 partnership works very very well together, definitely a case of the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. The T69 providing burst damage and the STA a more sustained threat to keep enemies away whilst the 69 reloads. Much fun has been had, and great success too. 8 battles tonight, 7 wins and probably 5 of them down to our platoon.

Some incredible games last night for sure. There's great synergy between the STA-1 and T69 and it's fair to say we (mostly you) carried nearly all of those games, including the first two sub 35% games. Get your headset and TS sorted and let's up the domination.

Quickybaby and Jingles are streaming WoWs on Twitch right this minute, it looks class.

Update:

More platoon silliness tonight, with myself in the STA-1 and my mate Rich in his T-44. I can't wait for the Xbox One game to come out, though realistically it's going to be the back end of the year I'd imagine, because the Xbox has a record function which when activated, turns the last 30 or 60 seconds of gameplay into a video clip. So something awesome happens, you say "Xbox, record that" and it puts the clip in the memory. I made some amazing plays tonight, including completely outplaying a Mutant and making a total mug out of him. In another match, we took the mid-map ridge on Port Snow, totally denying the enemy access to the middle of the map, before eventually using distract and flank tactics to rip the enemy apart.

I definitely find mediums the most satisfying tanks to play. When I first started, I liked TDs for the view range, frontal armour, and mainly for the guns, which made penetrating enemies much easier. Heavy tanks I enjoyed for the armour and the ability to take a few hits and keep fighting. However, when it comes to making game-changing plays, the versatility on medium tanks does it for me. Not to mention, the satisfaction of doing well in a medium, I feel that it takes more skill to do well in tanks that don't have a load of armour, health and high alpha guns. For example, last night when I topped a tier 10 game for damage in a tier 8 medium which doesn't even have the top gun, I knew I'd played my arse off.

Yes, me too; I'll give it a go. It's a 4.7Gb download currently.

Good job chaps- wish I could have played a bit longer, it was going well. As usual the triple threat of ELC platoon carried its game nicely. :-)

A pair of Ace Tankers to boot. Shows what a difference having a coordinated platoon makes.

NA region is still accepting applications for the closed beta test for World of Warships, but it's closed on EU. If anyone wants to try it that might still be a route. It looks pretty good on Circon's stream at the moment.

Yes, I'm on the NA test server. Despite all the hype, I'm finding World of Warships to be slow and boring frankly. Games are just long range slugfests.

If you like playing artillery in WoT, then you'll probably enjoy it, but I wouldn't be surprised if the number of users is going to tail off significantly once the novelty wears off. Just looking at the server now and there's fewer than 3,000 people on it.

Some quirks:

The in game gold currency is called "piastres" and the equivalent of a platoon is a "division" for some reason. The latter is probably a bad translation from Russian I expect.

If you exit a battle before it's over, you don't get a battle report screen when it ends. Consequently, you don't know if you've won or lost, what damage you did etc. There's no button in the bottom right like in WoT to bring up the results from previous battles either.

I can see how it might have a limited long term appeal, but it looks like it might be a good 'chill out' type option for the occasional few games.

Yeah, maybe. It's certainly a different pace to WoT, but I don't think I can face another grindfest game.

I used to play Silent Hunter II quite a bit, but you could accelerate time on the boring sea transits or if you were sitting silently on the bottom trying to evade convoy escorts. Obviously that's not an option in a live game.

I've just unlocked the final package for my ELC AMX, so it is now fully upgraded, complete with 90mm gun. I'm trying out an exciting new paradigm in light tank gameplay, it's an advanced tactic that involves not suicide-rushing the enemy as soon as the game starts. I know it's a difficult concept to comprehend for many, but I think it will yield promising results. hehe

The ELC is a beast with that gun, the APCR penetration is 248mm, that is the same as an AP round from the T34's 120mm gun, which is one of the biggest hitters at tier 8, absolutely mental. I'm loving the low profile and the agility, spotting early on and taking opportunistic shots, then jousting with lone tanks in the late game. I totally out-foxed an ARL 44 earlier, getting under his gun so he couldn't shoot me, I unloaded one into his side and he just had to wait for the next 10 seconds for my reload before I could finish him off, wonderful.

Seen the ELC AMX played this way many times, most ELC players are dead before the rest of the team mates are in position however when it goes well it can bring some great results.
Other day was in such a game and the ELC won us the game not only by spotting but he also got 7 kills.

The ELC AMX is a HD model in the 9.7 test server that's up now.

Also in HD are the E-100, IS-4, Jagdpanzer E-100, Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf. H and the T26E4 SuperPershing:

http://worldoftanks.eu/en/content/docs/development...

9.7 includes several new French tanks at both ends of the tree. The new tier 9 & 10 mediums (which branch off the AMX 13 90) look pretty good.

There are also various gun penetration nerfs and it seems they're separating new players from experienced ones for tiers 1-3. What exactly that means isn't clear as there are plenty of "experienced" players who are utterly hopeless. Perhaps they mean by number of battles, but how that effects premium tanks (including WoT freebies) isn't known either.

It's a 9GB download though. redface

fksticks, I just had a 7 kill round in my 105 lefH18b on Malinovka Encounter. It was down to me and a Grille (having gone 4 on 1 down to 1 on 1), he went into the cap, forcing me to come to him. I spotted him, and RNG fked me on two shots, giving him the time to aim me down and get the shot on me. tt, denied me a Radley-Walters!
