So another stupid novice question, which class is best, I've created one of each, should I concentrate on one only, if so which?, or should I be trying to level them all up equally?

Anyone fancy getting a fireteam together for some crucible matches under the Iron Banner special event?

Essentially it's a "gloves off" set of crucible matches where your kit, armour and weapons all work as intended - there is no nerfing or buffing of kit to match you against your opponents!

Seems like there may well be some good kit as rewards, too...

Nice idea, but if it's basically a no holds barred blastathon, unless you are level 28+ complete with a set of legendary / exotics weapons and armour you stand little to no chance? Spawn, die, spawn, die, etc
Despite what Destiny claim - all the "levelling" modifiers aren't turned off - I've been using non-legendary weapons and have been doing ok - even got MVP in a couple of matches.

I've also been one-shot killed by level 24s (I was using my level 28 titan).

Would be great to get a few of us together though as I firmly believe the key to the crucible is just to roam around from objective to objective in a gang of (at least) 3 and spank anyone you come across.

The weekly heroic seems ridiculously hard this week - did it with a random 27 Warlock with my 28 titan and just couldn't survive the waves when taking on the boss - I have a level 300 sniper rifle and it was still taking 8 shots to take out a servitor and 4 a yellow vandal! eek

Didn't even get near to finishing off the boss in god knows how many attempts. frown

Then tried it at level 26 with the same two of us plus Teampenguin at level 25) and we all got taken out before we even reached the boss! I was one-shotted by a level 26 minotaur, despite being at full health, inside my shield! mad

Are you talking about the Nightfall or just the heroic one?

Just the heroic!

It's the one on Venus where the tall boss drops out of a pod and walks around with a big gun, taking ridiculous amounts of damage to kill (about 50 sniper headshots, I'd have thought).

I know three mates did the Nightfall, which is the same one last night, apparently all three types of elemental damage are on, so whilst it's easy to kill things with any elemental weapon, getting hit by anything is particularly lethal.

Me Jon and Pilch did this one last night and it was nails! I was lvl26 and I couldn't touch some of the elites/majors.

The random 27 warlock was me (and thanks for reviving me constantly!). I have the Shadow Price legendary auto rifle at around 255 and it was taking almost a full clip to bring down the shanks and dregs. By the time we managed to get the boss down to almost dying and the stealth vandals came out, I may as well have been using a potato gun. And every weapon fired at me felt like it was using homing ammunition. I've done a weekly heroic before on my own when I was only a level 26, but this week is just crazy. It needs a full team of level 28s so there is no handicap against the supposed cannon fodder enemies.

Nice to team up with teampenguin just now (by accident) on a bit of a farm run in Venus - got a bunch of blue engrams but they all decoded to blue items sadly. Upgraded the Cryptarch to level 4 in the process and he gave a further 3 blue engrams only frown Still, I did get a level 20 pair of gauntlets which boosted my light and I'm now at the heady level of 22!

Apologies for disappearing like that too but I got booted from the game world and had run out of playing time in any case

Finally hit level 20 and completed the main story. Got to level 21 within 5 minutes. I can see this being a bit of a grind.

Have to say I'm not sure why you struggled so much, just make sure you have void (purple) weapons as that's what will do big damage and take your time. I managed to solo it tonight. Went on to try and get fusion rifle kills on the nightfall strike for an exotic weapon bounty and somehow managed to finish the whole strike, got to a certain stage and realised it could probably be done. After doing that, the regular weekly one was a bit more simple, as you've only got one damage modifier on.

The modifier really is key though, dropped the boss with about 10 void sniper rifle headshots and a mag of void machine gun fire.

What level were you playing it at - I tried level 28 first and level 26.

I hope you're right about the void weapons - I put 6 rounds of level 300 solar sniper fire into the bosses head before he'd even got a shot off and barely scratched him.

Concentrate on getting vanguard marks and reputation. You can get the marks by completing public events (look online for schedules of where they are - Earth mothyards and divide are most reliable at 00/30 mins past hour and 10-15/40-45 mins past the hour respectively) and strikes.

Best way to get reputation is to complete bounties.

Once you're level 2 rep with the vanguard you can buy legendary armour at 65 marks a piece. Helmet, gloves, chest and legs at legendary level will get you to level 28/29 when fully upgraded.

Cool, sorry I didn't recognise you from on here! That was a hard slog though!

All my weapons were legendary, my sniper rifle is the highest power you can get in the game and the others were upgraded too!

Level 28, did the nightfall first which is always 28, then the weekly on 28 for the 9 coins.

You might find if you've not got a decent void weapon that the nightfall is actually easier, as you'll do loads more damage with your solar rifle. The shanks all have solar shields on that, but you'll punch straight through those. Key is keeping everyone on the team alive on that though, otherwise you're straight back to orbit.

Another tip for the boss fight is to retreat back to the area you came in from, the boss tends to avoid that area, so you can catch your breath and even jump back out of the boss area completely if you get totally overwhelmed.

Picked up an exotic weapon bounty last night. Took the shotgun one since I'll enjoy using it in PVP a bit more than a hand cannon or pulse rifle, neither of which I've ever used.

Requires a spread of 25 K/D on Crucible though, which is extremely daunting since I can't even get to a 10 kill spree at the moment for a different bounty, even though I usually finish top or second to top on the scoreboard.
--ETA-- Just read up on this and it spans as many matches as it takes, so as long as I have more kills than deaths in most matches, I'll eventually hit it, so thats actually fairly easy

Also requires me to sell back 50 special ammo packs back to the gunsmith... why the hell I'll never know. So at 250 a pop, thats going to take 12500 glimmer. I don't think I've ever had more than 4000 at any point so far.

So apart from using the consumable that boosts glimmer drop from each enemy type, has anyone got any hints for making glimmer / getting special ammo reserve packs, and any good camping spots or strategies on Crucible?

Spot on. I did the heroic weekly with one of the fine chaps from here, this week and it wasn't an issue (and I'm probably an average player). Looking at my load-out, I had the right elemental weapons (by chance) and we danced about. A lot.

OK so currently I have the Future War doobry equipped which means any reputation I earn goes towards that faction. However it seems to be taking an awfully long time to even get to level 2 so that I can buy faction armour let alone level 3 for weapons.

Is this the best way to acquire legendary gear or would I be better off removing the faction item and acquiring general vanguard rep\gear instead?

Vanguard has been quickest for me. Really struggled getting past 22 but did a few bounties and strikes and powered through to 26 in no time.
