Elite: Dangerous

You need to get your throttle in the blue area on the indicator to get the best turn speed. There are also a few tricks you can pull with the vertical thrusters to get targets in your sights quicker, depending on what they are doing. You can also use flight assist off to turn while maintaing the same vector, as opposed to flying a loop like you do with flight assist on. The trick is to learn all these tricks
The ships are mainly big ponderous things anyway though, compared with many other space games where you fly nippy little fighters. Yaw is mega slow though, but useful for fine aiming.
The centre of the blue area is 50% throttle (I have a button that sticks me at 50% throttle), best way to turn is roll and pitch (like a fighter jet) at 50% throttle (think of it this way, most of the ships are wide and flat so have more thruster on the top and bottom, this is similar to the control surfaces on an atmospheric aircraft), The ships are mainly big ponderous things anyway though, compared with many other space games where you fly nippy little fighters. you can tighten your turn by using your thrusters, I find that pitching up and throttling down works for me, with FA off the thrusters work better and differently and it takes some practice figuring it out (I still need to practice this, a lot)
The Mercenary Edition is all you can buy at the moment as a pre-order. It gives you access to some training missions right now, and then some extra stuff (another ship, some paint jobs) when the game actually releases. Not sure if the Mercenary Edition will be available after the full release or if you will just be able to buy the basic game.
The Box Upgrade is just what it says - they'll send you a box. I'm not quite sure why this is a desirable thing.

Depends what's in the box, the original had a novella called The Dark Wheel, a detailed manual, a keyboard chart, and various other goodies; I wish I'd kept mine.
The Dark Wheel was great I agree (and available as a PDF now...a real nostalgia trip!). This one however...doesn't look so compelling. said:
Contents Include
• Elite: Dangerous full game on DVD (requires online connection)
• Quick Start Manual

So effectively a tenner for a 'quick start manual'. Think I'll give it a miss!• Elite: Dangerous full game on DVD (requires online connection)

There are several books, one of the most expensive kickstarter levels was a writers pack, which gave the rights to sell an officially endorsed novel, plus they would put your locations etc in the game.
Several writers did their own kickstarters to fund their pledges on the writers pack on the elite kickstarter.
There is going to be an official novel as well, dunno if it's in the box though, seems not from the post above.....

Really enjoying it so far, I've managed to get myself a Viper and trying to work out how to go bounty hunting but need to do some combat practice in the tutorials first so I'm not going to die to the first one. Not really sure yet what play style suits me best yet as I've only been trading with a Hauler so far but knowing it's just going to be wiped it's not worth trying too hard.
Been going to look at unidentified signal sources, and flying around systems in super cruise a bit more, rather than just using it as a way to get from station to station. Really starting to appreciate how it looks, it's really spectacular when you get an the sun rising over a planet and stuff like that. Hopefully they have some good surprises left over for release
Played with an xbox controller for a bit but the X52 is just so much nicer... so good choice to those who bought a hotas setup!

If you want to bounty hunt just do it, get a interdiction module and a kill warrant scanner, start of by hanging around the nav beacon at a star and look for wanted's, kill them you should be able to take anything upto and including a cobra easily. Once you've had a bit of practice have a cruise around in super and try out some interdiction Been going to look at unidentified signal sources, and flying around systems in super cruise a bit more, rather than just using it as a way to get from station to station. Cool, I will give it a bash tonight and see how I get on some other tips,
select either their powerplant or fsd using the target next subsystem button and aim for the little red square on the enemy ship this will kill them faster, on bigger ships it makes a massive difference.
Don't engage before it says 'wanted', even if they are wanted you will become wanted too.
using the kill scanner gives you additional bounties that they have in other systems.
Sometimes its not worth engaging a wanted, pay attention to their rank (harmless, deadly, elite etc) if they are a high rank but only have a low bounty they will take a while to kill for little reward, still good to fight them as they use better tactics and have better gear so are more challenging, but if your doing it for money it could be a waste of time.
The left hand 'contacts' menu shows the bounty cr you will get for the kill.
Don't kill fed ships, it reduces your faction standing. I have a hostile faction now due to being an muppet lol

I don't think so.The book you're looking for IS available. The out of stock you saw was for signed paperbacks. Hopefully this post doesn't break any rules - previous transgression was unintended (sorry) I'm not trying to push it through a specific outlet (so no link this time) just trying to correct a misunderstanding and allow someone access to a book they want to read.

That's disappointing. I found a Novel called "Elite Dangerous - Mostly Harmless" on Amazon. Great, I thought, I'll get that and stick it in the box for Christmas. But it's a blooming Kindle ebook. So I track down the paperback to Fantastic Books Publishing and it says "sold out".
Damn this virtual world, why can't I get a nice present, in a box, like it was in 1984.

Spent the last few days in a 16 T equipped hauler running a nice 3 stop route, built up loads of credits.
Traded in for a Cobra with a few upgrades, filled the hold with enough to make a tidy profit and promptly boosted straight into the station's interior destroying all the cargo!
I just had enough to scrape the insurance but now am reduced to spending my paltry tiny amount credits to trade my way back up!
Note to self, learn your HOTAS layout and leave more in the bank!
