nope I don't have the 56k modem installed anymore - no need I have BB.

I love my router. I've found I can connect to it via Telnet, but em, it won't let me! It refuses. Appears it will only allow a connection through UNIX. I mean, wtf is up with this heap of pooh?

edit>> dunno how it did it, but it connected through telnet (randomly) and now I can access VROC and presumably the rest. Problem is now my NAT firewall is off.... Be trying to get it working with that now then

edit2>> now it seems to work, it's just the shitty web interface that allows you to do nothing at all (that works) to this thompson router!

Now you can start updating the car models and tracks - it looks like a new game after that! What's your PC spec?

hi guys,

Probably not the point to ask this (as I probably won't be playing on line just yet), but I have a problem with GPL.

Bought it a few weeks ago and cant get the graphics working properly (just get the crappy standard ones at low res). When ever I choose any options i.e 3D card etc it says that this will take effect next time I start the program - which doesn't happen. Its now really winding me up as I can't figure out why.

And I really want to play

Any ideas?

Cheers

Chris

What's your system spec? Have you got all the latest patches? Have you edited the core.ini file to include the D3D video settings? Does core.ini have the .sample extension removed?

OK - I'm not very computer literate, could you explain in simple terms for me please.

Where do I get the latest patches from?

How do I edit the core.ini file?

System spec - 1.2ghz Athlon, Nvidia TNT graphics card, 128mb Ram.

I whish I could get mine to look like that

Woody,

If you install GPL out of the box and then follow the instructions on this page...

http://eaglewoman.racesimcentral.com/gpl/survival.htm#What do I need to download for GPL?

You need the 1.2 patch, the disconnect fix, the cpu speed fix and the direct3d fix. You get all these (as the page says) from www.papy.com.

...you should then get another option for the graphics card in your setup (direct3d I think). Choose that and save the options and restart the game. Then go back into setup and up the resolution.

If that doesn't work then go back to the papy.com site and get the opengl patch and try that. All the patches (from memory) are installable executables so should be easy to apply once downloaded and virus checked.

The reason for the number of patches is that GPL is a very old game which is still kicking around because the drivability is just amazing and the racing so good.

I downloaded the IOM track last night and it's incredible although quite difficult.

Does anyone else have a problem with engine sounds? If I crash and reset the car the engine sound then sounds distorted. If I then spin the car (preferably without wrecking it) the sound works again.

dern I have the same problem and it caused me to stop playing it (the one time I tried it a while back ) I was thinking it was my soundcard tho (seems to play up all the time as it is)

Still trying to get my pedals working, no brakes caused some problems last night! Was mighty impressed how the host was on dialup and it was working fine tho!

I have a 1.4Tbird, 512PC133, GF4 Ti4400GS, SB Live!Player 5.1, 80GB disks.

I also have a SB live card but the 1024 one, maybe that's the issue. I can't remember if my m'board has onboard sound, if it does I might try unplugging the sound card and using that and see if that works any better. I don't rate the SB live cards much tbh.

Odd that it resolves itself after a spin in GPL though.

BTW, how do you get these screen shots?

I used to have crackly sound on my old PC, but it's fine on my new PC with the Audigy2 sound card. Seems to be quite a common problem on other SB sound cards though.
I got the screen shots from the GPL Track Database

What times are you getting around Aintree?

For some reason I can't get my head round the layout at all and the best I've managed is 1:52.

I haven't completed a lap without crashing yet

for the sound issues, turn the hardware acceleration down. It's all to do with the way SB drivers work for the Live series, they fixed the problem with the Audigy
