I've tried to have a look through the pages but could anyone give me a quick rundown by nation of good paths. Currently I have some crusaders and a M2 from the UK / USA groups but it's early enough for me to switch to something else if it will be better
It is a cliche, but that doesn't stop it being true - Russian tanks are OP.TommoAE86 said:

In general:USSR - easy to play, best starter nation overall - the KV1 heavy line / T-34 medium lines worth playing. Su-100 TD line also very good. Avoid SU101 / a-43 medium lines as they are pretty hard to play.
USA - good mix of tanks and styles, probably the best all round nation (if you wanted to focus on just one). Most lines very good, the TD's a little weak after tier 7 relative to other nations. The light tanks are excellent.
UK - harder to play, never really the best in class, but some real gems (Cromwell for exmample). Medium line that goes to the Centurion AX best bet for UK.
German - rarely as good as the USA / USSR line. The occasional good tank often surrounded by mediocrity. But if you want to play a Tiger its the only way to go. Would recommend the Tiger HT line, just because it's usually ok.
French - Quirky. Usually rely on mobility over armour, can be very good but takes a bit of know how to get the best out of them. I'd go up the heavy line first, if any, simply because the tier 5 BDR is a lot of fun. Avoid the TD's like the plague, the tier 5 is ok, the rest garbage (though the tier 4 is good for a laugh)
China - Clones of USSR tanks, usually with a higher rate of fire but other weaknesses to compensate (lack of gun depression). Best left alone really.
Japan - Pretty new, only mediums (ok, not great, tier 7 is a joke) and massive heavies (currently very overpowered at tier 5/6, so-so after that).
Czech - Very new, mediums only. Tier 9 & 10 very good, before that not really good to start with. Tend to be lightly armoured so need to play with caution.

^^ nice games guys, well played.
Met a strange dude in the game tonight (not Kozzy). I nuked his t54 mod-1 for 800 odd health, ending his game in the first minutes in my M12. Fair amount of rage came my way, and ok I would be mad too so I don't mind - but his comment "you *****'ers ruin the game with Arty" seemed normal, until after the battle I checked his account. His most played tanks are the M40/43 SPG and SU8 spg, in with 6,081 games between them (30k games account). You meet all sorts in this game.
And since we are sharing, finally managed to Ace the E5, only took 200 odd games ...

My mate Terry had this happen in a recent game which I thought was funny : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb0YKXITDWs

Thanks very much, I haven't got France/Japan/Czech, are they PC only as I'm on PS4? Anyway enjoying a tier 2 USA tank which is very good and a couple of tier 3 Brits on the way to the Centurion and Cromwell and have started a USSR line USSR - easy to play, best starter nation overall - the KV1 heavy line / T-34 medium lines worth playing. Currently grinding an M41 trying to do spg missions :/ i feel so dirty.
I don't...
Grinding the thing for the same reason, decided on the US line as I'm continually getting wrecked by them. Just can't ever hit anything with that gun! Fully aimed shots not even arriving in the same postcode, incredibly frustrating to play! Hopefully the tier 6 will be better.

Trying to aim more but we aparently shouldnt expect more than about 60% hit ratio when fully aimed wtf...
They are a lottery. I have had nights where despite being fully zeroed in more than half the shots have landed outside the reticle.I'm not really an arty player, so have no idea whether I'm doing it right at all. My ethos is to, if possible, take out the fairly easy for me kills, just to take their guns off the field so that the tanks I am supporting have less shooting at them, and can continue spotting for me. Not talking bottom tier lights, just things damaged enough and now in cover from the tanks, that I can hit, and remove from the game. Not sure whether I should be trying to smack the top tier heavies about, despite knowing I'll only do a few hundred damage to them, and leaving more enemy guns in play. Seems a bit wrong when playing for wins, over experience. Though my stats above show how well that is going...
I read this 3 part arty guide..

My hit rate has gone up a little, positioning improved, I am checking flanks more often and moving when I think I need to.
Target selection has in part been driven by the missions though, do 1000 HT damage, destroy 1 vehicle on your own ( anything feeble and stopped), kill an spg etc.
Onto spg 12 now I think, 15 looks tough - do 2000 damage, so far I have managed 1850 max in the m41, the m44 will hopefully get more shots on target and a higher hp pool to shoot at. I will probably load gold for that too so I can pen those juicy HT's
