Had a good game where we won easily, everyone played as a team. We had a couple of full tanks, couple in fighters and some snipers. I was a gunner in a tank and we just drove around murdering everyone and taking all the flags. Felt good working as a team and it working really well.

Hmmm, got kicked out of a server and couldn't matchmake in either mode after that. Hope this is just a Beta issue. frown

I must admit the game sounds fantastic through my astro A40's and set to war tapes inn the bf1 sound menu!!

Best moment i saw today was running to F from C and watching a friendly soldier run past me on fire screaming his head off. Very nice touch smile

I played the Beta today for the first time. I like the design, the gameplay is classic BF and you can now people down on a horse! Plus it's extremely satisfying taking people out with a bolt action or semi-auto rifle. However, I poured a lot of time into BF:BC2 and BF3 (missed out on BF4) and I'm not sure if BF1 will have that same sticking power.

But oh my does it look pretty.

Also, how do you select between fighter/bomber? If I choose an aircraft I just get fighter. Can I switch to external views? This is PS4. I'm sure it's on the control mapping but I haven't bothered to look yet.

ALSO, how on earth are people racking up 20-30,000+ points in a round?! I'm scraping by with 7-9,000 and rushing around like a blue arsed fly to do so.

Capture bases for points.

I just got 19k pretty easily.

R3 for external views.

Alias - select type of plane/tank by cycling through l1/r1. Seems that you have a spawn of a 'ground vehicle' or 'plane' and you can choose which type...

I'm really enjoying it. Nice pace, need to think and act as a team, good variety of game play options, lovely graphics.

I know I'm a broken record, but it'll last or be a one month wonder based on the matchmaking and map variety.

Blimey... That bayonetting business is a bit full-on isn't it? and flamethrower/incendiary grenades are properly nasty.
A bit slower paced than 4, need to be a bit more thoughtful perhaps. The balance and flow is quite different so a bit of adjustment is needed. Snipers didn't seem to be any more of a problem than in 4 to me. Planes are great. The tanks are a nice mix of powerful but hard to use and easy to avoid.

I've installed Battlefront and played them back to back... The major differences are the lack of linearity and slightly better functionality of the weapons. It's been dumbed down from 4, which i also replayed for a level and found much more fun than i used to, despite the technical issues primarily because of the depth of tactical play which is lacking in the more basic BF1.

Graphics are nice, minus the awful texture count on the floor. Let down.

Loading and spawn screen issues are horrific and really shouldn't be happening in this beta. Broken.

2 minute wait to start a round is pretty dire. Broken.

Conquest time limit is both good and bad for play rhythm.

Lack of a decent ranged anti tank is poor. Would be much better off to combine the sniper and anti tank class to have only one class of rifle that is ranged beyond combat distance of c.200m and has the punch to shatter armour.

Lack of skill required to kill. No bullet drop, like lasers - fairly pathetic. Let down.

Inconsistent dynamics. No bullet drop on rifles but the shells fired from guns and tanks and the train seem to drop the second they come out of the muzzle. Make your mind up EA! Broken.

Crap destruction. Actually less than BF4 in the beta. Sure, you can blow up a floor or a section of building but I'm pretty sure they said destructibility was returning to BFBC2 style... well, it isn't - not even close. Let down.

Inconsistent scoring. The main release said about if you do 75% of the damage you get 75% of the points... Well most assists where i've hit a bloke with a sniper scoring 90 damage of a total 100 (only to see a bloke run up and fire a pistol at him) award me 20 points. Instead of the 90 for a majority kill. Broken.

Hit detection still thrown massively off by OOR players. Broken. No excuse for this - bias for local players and the suffering is dished out equally if people chose to play OOR. Apparently EA/Dice don't believe in that, lets fk over the locals.

Laughable dynamics. Tanks are literally hooning about at 30mph... The reality was they were slow, lumbering brimming aholes dishing out carnage and taking some hits before being destroyed - by changing this dynamic to a more realistic one you'd have a more fearsome prospect and make it far more tactical, thus adding depth. The train has to be the most armoured train in the world - 60 shots into it from a fixed emplacement pounder and a bomber bombing it repeatedly got it to 30%. Let down.

Physics.. Oh the physics.. Already touched on the shots, but when you get blown up your body just flies away. I saw a bloke fall off a horse, then fly off into the distance.... Broken/let down.

When one squad plays as a team they pretty much sweep up the other side and carry the friendlies. Good and Bad.

The GOD AWFUL SANDSTORM. Adds Nothing. Broken.

Overall its pretty, in places and very one dimensional. I've cancelled my deluxe edition preorder and gone for the basic one. It'll last maybe a month as did battlefront - because its the same game - made for kiddies after school instead of people playing tactically.

i really struggled last night - to stay alive.

gosh it was tough and despite picking up the flammenveffer (we say flame thrower) and scorching a few bad guys it was spawn die spawn die - i tried spotting as much as i could but spending time spotting meant more time to be shot at.

really hard going defending as opposed to attacking as well i thought.

You can get on a horse and just charge around the back, usually get 1-2 kills that way before they notice....

I find half the problem is I can't work out who is friend or foe and I am not alone, yesterday about 4 of us were in a house, turned out it was 3 on my team and 1 enemy..... No-one noticed for a while then all hell broke loose!

Yes, they need to identify the enemy a bit better. Really sick of shooting at my own teams aircraft, it's going to make hardcore really interesting.

It's a beta. A lot of the menu's will be place holders, as will a lot of the audio files. This game will change ALOT before release. Battlefield 4 in beta was unplayable. Net code was poor, full of memory leaks and just all around janky. Got the same reception as this. Three years later (and a lot of patches, granted) it's one of the best selling and most played PC shooters and largely a completely different experience from the initial beta.

Go in with open eyes, we've seen 1 map out of 10 (or two, if you were fortunate enough to play alpha) and maybe 15% of the weapons available. The map was a poor choice for the beta, without a doubt, but the more I play it the more I am starting to get that familiar BF aura.

Battlefront was an arcadey marketing exercise aimed at youths off the back of a crap remake of an iconic film. Lacks depth.

This when complete will be good, the fundamentals are there. I just hope they listen to the feedback and we get the game we want come release day.

I played this for a few hours last night and well ... meh. Battlefield has gone downhill since BFBC2.

It now seems that the BF formula is now to have huge sprawling maps (with largely nothing in them) and then force both teams together through a narrow action corridor. Which turns the game into another COD style twitch shooter but less fun - as you inevitably end up spending a bunch of time running across huge distances only to get killed and be forced to repeat it all over again.

Ignoring a few flaws in the Beta - I am just failing to find the BF games fun any more. BF3 was sterile, BF4 was genuinely unenjoyable, Battlefront felt like a Free To Play game - BF1 wise I just cant even remotely excited about it or differentiate it from the billion other games just like. The partially destructible environments are also a big let down.

No doubt hype will mean it sells by the truck load and it will be treated like the most amazing collection of pixels ever to be seen but its pretty average from my point of view.

Its also amusing that people bang on about "team play" being a thing. It doesn't happen, everyone is out for themselves, which is also another reason why these games are so tedious these days. They are based around the concept of team work and co-operation, someone to give you more ammo or to revive you when you die - but in reality people just want to bump their kill count at the expense of playing the assigned roll.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if they dropped the kill stats and you only rank up whether your team wins and your contribution to healing / restocking / suppressing / capturing - maybe even a hot zone bonus if you re in the thick of it action wise. It might give people the incentive to play the game properly and might also thin out the endless ranks of snipers who sit at the very fringes of the map contributing nothing to the game other than trying to massage their egos with big kill counts.
