The joys of rural broadband.... Mine is still downloading
Amen. Checked this morning, and I still had 90 mins to go. I love living in the countryside, I really do, but the internet is se. I have 1meg download with sky unlimited and there is no fibre service. I probably need an AV type bloke to come and have a look for optimum performance etc. Still. Should finally be on tonight.
to be fair fellas, apart from trying out the new crucible maps, there's not much your missing out on.. obviously getting used to where things are, when you do get on, I would just focus on getting max bounties completed (but don't hand in) ready for Tuesday as this will level you up, and when you get the new subclass gives you xp for unlocking those, doing the weapon testing from gunsmith, which can be done in 2 hours ish. I wouldn't bother doing the Quests from the vanguard until next week because there's a bug at the minute where when you complete them nobody is getting the emblem, and the reward you get you cant use until your level 40 anyway. and the quests will give XP towards your level from next Tuesday anyways.. just my 2 pence worth!
So what are people doing between now and TTK next week? Anyone interested in doing the Nightfall? Might get a year 2 ready exotic perhaps? ... Strange Coins have been dropping fairly regularly from turning in bounties, so less bothered about the weekly, especially as it is Omnigul
The new bounties are a distraction I suppose and I've given up on trying to hold onto the "ready to level up" Vanguard I built up pre-patch and just hope that the packages decrypt into something useful post TTK & when at lvl 40
There are the Gunsmith prototypes to try out I guess although I note that a couple of those require their use in the Crucible. I thought that they were getting away from forcing people into modes that they didn't want to play There are no scout rifles to try, my personal preference, for this week at least
I could just about ignore them before, but I now have 3 x Omnigul story strikes in my quest lines which I can't now ignore and I want them gone, so I suppose I'll have to endure that hateful strike with some randoms just to clear them I dunno, being optimistic it could be a refreshing change as I've only run it before as a NF or weekly. Or not
And I saw something yesterday I never thought I'd see - Stimpy was playing something other than Destiny! Have you accidentally snapped your disc in half or something?

Well, I've had a look around and seen that the bounties are slightly different. Did some of the weapon testing, although I'm not sure to what end. Did some of the vanguard quest stages but, also don't know what I will get out of it once they're complete.
I realise that this isn't TTK yet and it is just a patch but, it is all still about doing the same old st all over again but, with slightly different incentives. The weapon nerfs/buffs all seem a little pointless so far although, I've yet to try them out in any 'serious' content.
So, whilst it all looks very pretty and it is nice to have a larger vault and a new ghost, I'm still feeling decidedly underwhelmed with the whole thing.
Still not entirely convinced that they deserve another £40 of my money when a good 80% of future content is on the same maps I've been playing on for the last 12 months...

Totally with you at the moment. I watched an interview with Luke Smith about TTK in which he says there is only 6 or 7 hours of story before you get into the end game content:I realise that this isn't TTK yet and it is just a patch but, it is all still about doing the same old st all over again but, with slightly different incentives. So that's 6 or 7 hours of story and one raid for £40. Considering that the leveling process means doing the same bounties (sorry, "quests" lol) I've already done for hundreds of hours, I'm not so sure it's worth it either.
A little earlier in that same video, Luke Smith tries to tell us that by simply relabeling bounties as quests, it totally changes the experience and embraces the RPG element of the game. Neither or do my hysterical laughter justice.

I think the new ghost voice is reason enough to give up on destiny, hell sod dlc content costs, how much cash do they need to get dinklebot back, they may have been better running a completion on the forum to find a squeaker to voice ghost,, or giving the job to Barry scott- probably less annoying.I realise that this isn't TTK yet and it is just a patch but, it is all still about doing the same old st all over again but, with slightly different incentives. Odd how much of the content is now locked at level 20, engrams are back to level 18 for greens and blues, was at level 20 before the patch, even though that level was obselete as usable stuff.
Bounties are still a piece of piss, taking seconds to complete, just done a public event and it was the same, so either they haven't changed/won't change and only the court of oryx will be different, although that looks like it will be a pain in the backside due to how rewards will be distributed, or not as the case will be.
Think mgsv may be a better option or wait for fallout rather than going for ttk, having avoided the hype train for this dlc, I've had no interest in getting ttk, but over the last week or so I have considered it a little but having played 2.0 the short lived enthusiasm which was making me consider getting ttk has gone again, it's a bit mehstiny

I got home from a long day in work yesterday looking forward to a night of new stuff in Destiny and my download was still only about 60% done, so I thought sod them and went to Sainsburys to buy the latest Metal Gear Solid game. It's a breath of fresh air to play something new. One of the guys on the MGS5 thread said it's like a mixture of Red Dead Redemption and Farcry 3. I think it's quite similar to Hitman too, so if you are into those games then it's worth trying out. Very different to Destiny and so far (I did 4 hours last night) I'm loving it.

I've been playing the demo the last few days and am very impressed with it. I've put the full game on my birthday wish list so should get it in a couple of weeks. Not that this helps you Speckle, but there are at least 5 new Crucible maps, some of which are pretty cool - one is a deserted Tower, another has zero G for objects (not for players) and a third has warp gates to transport you from one area to another.
Agreed, it's not going to be worth £40, but then Destiny hasn't been value for money since day 1.

Rather perversely, I'd like less content. As Tim says, 6 hours of play isn't much, but becomes too much when you do it with 3 characters time and time again. I'd like to have a standalone raid, with new raid weapons and none of the supporting systems. I'd happily pay £20 for that.
I saw an article recently that said that Destiny no longer requires RNG to level up. Surely it does though, as the light level will dictate ability, and light is gained through RNG armour drops.
Exotics need levelling up again. I thought that was a year 1 mistake that wasn't going to be repeated (although I don't think they take as much xp).
Gaz says that there's not much to do yet. Next week there will be, then it'll be time to grind again as that content will get old quick, except for ...........................................The Raid.
Next Friday is going to be terrific and worth the £40 alone. £40 isn't even an evening out and I'll get my monies worth then.

Funny thing, I was contemplating this earlier. I've played it more than any other game I've ever owned, clocking up over one thousand hours so I've definitely gotten my monies worth out of it. Is that the same thing as being value for money though? Youngsy, given that you've doubtless spent at least an equal amount of time in the game as I have, and still don't consider the game has been value for money, that's clearly a very subjective issue.

And there's the crux of it, and for once I'm not talking about the "of Crota" variety! Next Friday is going to be terrific and worth the £40 alone. £40 isn't even an evening out and I'll get my monies worth then.
According to Destiny Tracker I've spent nearly five days playing Raids alone, and if King's Fall is really going to be as big or bigger than Vault of Glass, that figure should easily double over the next couple of months. Even if TTK is £40, that's my monies worth right there.

Value for money ABSOLUTELY has to be tied to hours played. GTA5 has so much more content, but I've probably played it about a tenth of the time I have Destiny.
I'm not saying on the face of it that TTK will be good VFM, and I feel TDB and HOW (especially HOW) were poor VFM, mainly because A LOT of what I was doing during them, was actually vanilla game stuff.

Ooooohhh, listen to you now. Think you're a big shot? Pound for pound, without shadow of a doubt good value for money. The frankly ridiculous amount of hours logged is testament to the people with whom we play. I've said it before, Destiny would be nowhere without 3rd party influences, and it does wrangle somewhat to pay over the odds for a below par product. Is Destiny the game(including this dlc) worth £120? No way. Is Destiny the experience worth £120? Definitely(with the proviso that the new raid will indeed be the best yet).
Having given this a spin for a planned 30 mins which turned into a 4 hour session () a couple of observations:-
- Hawkmoon still wreks in PvP but, in line with the nerf, the drop off in range is pretty bad. I didn't think it would be so drastic.
- Monte Carlo (if you have it) is worth dusting off. I had my arse handed to me repeatedly with people using that.
- The new ghost voice acting is tripe. Bring back Dinklebot.
- Shotgun ranges are still obscene.
- The "tagging bounties" feature to see progress quickly is a very neat addition.
I'm really excited for next week.

For me, value for money is not linked to time spent playing - I tend to obsess about my hobbies and have spent days replaying games, trying to obtain every single achievement, since before game consoles existed (Amiga).I'm not saying on the face of it that TTK will be good VFM, and I feel TDB and HOW (especially HOW) were poor VFM, mainly because A LOT of what I was doing during them, was actually vanilla game stuff.
So, for me, it's a given that I will spend a lot of time playing any game.
Value for money for me is measured in the amount of content a game has. Just because I choose to replay limited content hundreds of times doesn't make it value for money.
To put it another way, if someone charged me £100 for a stone that I spent 100 hundreds of hours staring at, it doesn't make the stone good value for money.
You also have to consider the amount of hype that Bungie has built up for the game, only to fail to deliver. This again feels like a con.
