Holy thread resurrection... I'm new to PUBG - What tips can anyone give me as I'm clueless but working things out slowly...
Depends.Do you want to just runaround shooting people CoD or play as a Battle Royale and try to be the last survivor?
My first tip would be not to start playing....

Watch WackyJacky on Youtube. It's a difficult game to get into this late in it's cycle. Those still playing hardcore have gotten very good. When it first came out and leaderboards were a thing, I was in top 100 in Squads EU. Took a year's break and came back and got destroyed. You really need to play it consistently to be getting wins unless you get extremely lucky. Been a few months since I played last now.
Never stand still, always check the zone, always take frag-grenades, stay boosted, never stand still, never (unless for cover from shots) lie down, know when to ADS and when just to hold (distance / weapon), check zone & map topography, try to avoid pushing uphill without cover.
Also, don't under estimate how good some people are, i.e. running in the open - you will get head shotted,
Find a squad to play with, so much better than solo / duos.
Finally, persevere, it is a difficult but great game, it took me about 9 months to get good ... now i'm around 20% winrate and last season was 2.8 K/D.
We've had 9 wins in 11 before now and only lost one of those because one lad jumped out of a car in the middle of afield and we tried to res' him!

Thanks for the tips - I'm just looking for something to distract me with mostly. I'm staying on the beginner mode and I've won a battle already but probably more through chance than anything else.
I am struggling getting my head around the maps and seeing where the blue/red zone comes in and not getting killed.
Also, either I'm being dense, but I seem to be struggling to swap weapons - I can see two I have at the bottom of my screen, but seem to struggle to switch to other weapons I pick up...

Pretty sure it is defaulted to the scroll wheel on your mouse. If not, change it to that.I am struggling getting my head around the maps and seeing where the blue/red zone comes in and not getting killed.

I was gonna agree with Lord Vader, also watch Wacky Jacky & the PCG 2019 finals that are on YT now-keep moving, lots of smoke, use cars to rotate into the circle where people may not be
Then you said "phone"
I would check out YT if there are any Jacky equivalents on the mobile game
But Im in no position to give advice..600+ hours, no chicken dinner

No way you've played 25 odd days and never had a chicken?!? Solo or squad?
Season 4 - 198 games / 114 top 10 / 41 wins @ 2.28 - includes solos / duos and random squads too.
If you are on console and not a complete potato happy to help
Aculite / Fugglett / Tomographic / WackyJacky / Stonemountain64 / Shroud - Aculite, Shroud & fugg' are next level.
As regards PUBG mobile many of the answers given are the same, keep moving, keep health up, beware of running towards high ground without cover, and those who play intensely are very good.
I gave up as my couple of games a week just meant was getting slotted once I'd risen a few ranks. Tried squads and just got frustrated with being teamed up with numpties. A few games of teams of two paired up with someone in the same room so communication was good were a hoot.
Two chicken dinners only.
As for YouTubers, try The Bushka and Powerbang Gaming both have some beginners guide videos. But when you watch their latest stuff you'll see how good players are.

The mobile version is surprisingly good. Make sure you've got graphics turned up (if your phone can handle it), decent internet is a must.
Obvious things, use your ears, sound is a massive tool to use in this game, can tell where folk are coming from, if they are running, sneaking etc.
For swapping guns, iirc you just tap the icons at the bottom, it should change over.
try to be logical with your shots, take your time, as keeping hold of the recoil can be a bugger. Remember that other people are playing on their phones, too. so you can get in to some quite funny firefights. 2 people 5m away from eachother, going through 90 bullets
I do well with Solo, never bother with squads etc on mobile as you just get tagged up with folk that either don't speak English, which makes it tricky, or that aren't aware they've gone in to squads and just bugger off to do their thing!
I spent ages when I first got it on the xbox just hiding, trying to sneak around. Then after a while I just thought "fk it" and started going out looking for fights, best way to get used to the mechanics, maps etc. Then after that you can figure out strats that work.
