it smashes forza out of the park...seriously

if you are into cars and racing...just get it
It's been despatched wink
i would agree, its ALOT better. Handling seems better too, the CTR i have doesnt plough on in the corners unless you throttle up whereas forza just seems to understeer massively.

Its just the next step up tbh.

Online multiplayer was pretty awesome when i tried it last night too!

If you turn into a bend in a 500bhp RWD car with TC off does it

a) understeer
b) oversteer

If the answer is b) then I'm gonna be £279.99 lighter by the end of the day...:heheh:

Seriously though, I'm liking the comments. Love Forza and was really into my PC sims a few years ago but just don't get the time to play anymore. Sounds like GT5 is somewhere in between? Which means I need a wheel, stand.....

For those who play with the inside view - does it not annoy you that you can't use this view for all cars or is it easy to adapt to?

One thing I always disliked about GT4 was that although it claimed you were driving at 80mph, the game gave you a sense of moving at about 10mph, something that Forza managed to sort out. Is GT5 improved in that respect? And do cars now handle like cars rather than a cruise ship? hehe

the sense of speed is very good even the slow cars "feel" quick at around 80...better than Forza imho smile

A post has just been put up on the other GT5 thread about this. The damage model is meant to improve/increase as you level up. Initially there is not much to it, but as you get into the higher levels you will open up the damage models that involve doors flying off and stuff. The source for this is GTPlanet, so not official. I guess we'll all find out soon if there is any truth in it.
rofl

Yeah, that sounds very logical doesn't it? I bet its just wishful thinking from the blokes on that website personally.

Glad the game is delivering on its long term promises.

I am sad that I don't own a PS3, but not that gutted strangely.

Have to say I love all the comments about it smashing Forza, if it didn't then there should be questions asked, As forza 3 is pretty old now.

Enjoying lots. But I've done the first 2 licences. great I can use in car view. But when doing the first 3-4 of the beginner races I can only change to outside view, top of car view or bonnet. What have I done/ or can do to change to inside view?
Anyone got any ideas what I have done with the view? or getting the above?

Indeed,

When the whole object of the game is NOT to hit other cars/things, I rather think that a super-accurate damage model is missing the point.

So is this any good with a pad? Or do you really need a wheel for it?
I would love to invest in a wheel, but its all the other costs; a stand, the fights with the GF etc...

yes it is very good with the pad...I am holding off on buying a wheel now, tried them in the past and never got on with them...so I was reluctant to spend over £100 on something that will sit unused

the pad works well yes once you set the keys up how you like them

So, I managed to get a couple of hours on it last night, here's my initial impressions....

Good:
- physics are much better, very like this!
- my Fanatec wheel and clubsport pedals worked first time, no messing about!
- there's LOTS to get my teeth into, this is a BIG game
- community features! (my PS3 friends added automatically and I could see their progress)
- very polished UI

Bad:
- single-player A-Spec is still chequebook racing; buy car + add power = win*.
- single-player seems to easy (see above), but licenses are still nicely hard
- graphics, yes they're better than Forza and GT4/GT5P, but somehow I was expecting better
- sound, not exciting. Tyre squeal also not good.
- load times between menu screens (e.g. into and out of options!)
- it seems to have 'forgot' my preference for manual gears after

  • I'm really hoping this isn't the case later on when I get into races that are not "unrestricted"

No, I think when it takes 6 years to get to market, is touted as teh real driving simulator, then you'd want realistic damage models - it would also stop people using other cars as cornering/braking aids. f1 2010 has is just about spot on in terms of avoiding contact - big penalties if you crash into someone.

you just have to use some common sense when modding ...I have had some very close races so far smile

did you read that the damage comes into play more as you level up?
I like that idea...less harsh while you are getting to grips with it

You're right, but at the same time any challenging event leaves a choice of two options:
- buy a car upgrade and wipe the floor with them
- practise and get better at driving

It takes a lot of discipline to always go for the second option.
