Britvic here... I crashed heavily on stage 1 and I think the car packed up completely on stage 2. Just moved house and no internets at the moment, so hoping to get some much needed offline practice in.

A steering wheel massively improves the experience!

I picked up a cheapy Thrustmaster for £100 from PC world and it's great.

So, where did I come (and how can I check?) I was aiming for around 9th hehe

Not a fan of Germany so, I'm not expecting great things this week....

We also need to ahve a think about next week's rally and get it all set up in advance.

Perhaps the PC version is better. Maybe it's because I don't have a steering wheel.
Ah! My TV must be too small!

Nope. Still don't get it.
Any ideas to improve the experience?
It's got about a week before it ends up in the pre-owned section of my local game store...
Try starting with the mini, it's fwd and easy to chuck about, avoid rwd until you have a feel for the cars.
It's a hard game to master and not and arcade game like dirt 3 etc.
Steering wheel makes a huge difference as does setting the car up.

Interesting. Apart from turning off TC, ABS etc I have always left the default settings. I don't have the patience for lots of fettling/testing.changing setups etc.

Probably explains why I'm so slow! thumbup

fking hate the idea of setting cars up. Was playing Grid last night, epic, switch on and drive and its a level palying field because Nerdy McNerd hasnt spent 8 months tweaking the setup of his saxo.

as much as I understand the idea behind Forza, GT and DiRT we are sadly lacking in something fun like PGR and Grid. People say "Horizon" but thats crap.

X-Platform League Event 1 is over! Will put everything into a google docs sheet, as this wiki thing is too unwieldy. There are a number of folk on the PS/Xbox leagues whom I just have the racenet name for. Presume they're on PH? Anyone know who they are?

Sadly that doesn't explain why you are a minute behind us as I'm using the standard controller/settings as well wink

I've always kept default settings on all racing games I've played apart from removing TC, I just like to turn the console on and jump straight into it!

Never used a fancy wheel setup either, although I'm curious as to how much my times would improve seeing as I'm so used to the DS4.

Know what you mean we used to have a good laugh on pgr but nothing about like that now.

Re setups, takes me about a minute to set car up, save it and that's it job done, if say I'm in the scooby, I have a setup for each location saved and just load it in before the event. Job done.

I just like to take my time and enjoy the scenery (occasionally by actually crashing into it!) hehe

I feel better about being off the pace knowing that custom setups were being used.

I see there is an option (for upcoming events) to disallow custom setups, which would make it fairer for everyone. Unfortunately, there is no way to change it for this week.

To start with, your times would probably get worse as you'd need to re-calibrate your brain. Having said that, I know a few people who are just genuinely faster on a controller as they are so used to it but, usually, the more measured inputs from a wheel setup ultimately result in quicker times.

For me,Using a wheel setup is more about immersion than anything else. Plus, it's more fun biggrin

I was the same and even now it is infuriatingly tricky but rewarding. Best thing is just practice with some assits on, I recommend stability and traction set to 2 just whilst you get going, anything higher and its uncontrollable due to them cutting in. Get use to the loose handling then drop the assists off. I am still a good 5 minutes off the pace but loving it
I'm kinda the same, it's just like the old RBR game where just getting to the end in one piece while going at a respectable pace was a challenge in itself. Also get some decent headphones/speakers as the sound effects are top class.

I'd just turn all the aids off and build up from there. Wouldn't really bother with setups as well unless there was something about the car I really wanted to change (gear ratios etc)

Thanks for the input, but a steering wheel's a no-no in my household. Space, kids and pets will see to that, not to mention expense.

I just don't have the time to invest in practising something just so I can begin to enjoy it.
That's not entertainment, and life's too short.

And where are the tarmac and safari events?
I'd have loved Rally de Corse.... maybe.

Found a forum where people have shared their setups (think it was on the main dirt website). Much as I understand the theory behind tuning in practice my efforts are a little hit and miss so I prefer to benefit from someone else's skills... however unlike Forza, I've not found tuners that can be relied on as yet...

PC users get it a little easier, as we benefit from the Steam workshop.

Not that it helped me much.

Porkhammer is a well regarded turner on Steam.

I drive it as it came out of the box and all driving aids turned off.

I realize that setting the car up can make a load of difference but I just can`t be arsed.
