Good to see a few of you guys in there last night.
Not so good that most of you are already far far quicker than me
Is this because you've started tinkering with setups or simply that you're better than me. I haven't spent any time tweaking the defaults yet and I couldn't stop the Alfa and Cortina from going sideways everywhere

I saw you online mike but you were already in a race so i couldn't join.
Only done a few laps but it is a laugh, am trying to "start again" using no aids at all (except automatic clutch) and finding it hard to brake without locking up. Still, must be worth practicing so i'm going to persevere.
I got it working, it was the starforce fix that i needed, cheers guys. Now running 1280x1024 32bit all details to full, 2x antialiasing, getting 80fps. WOoooooooo

I found reducing the brake sensitivity to 30% makes it easier not to lock up - more of the travel controls less of the braking braking pressure at high braking force, if you see what i mean. Means you can modulate the brakes better when braking hard.
Also you need to come onto and off of the brakes really gently - if you stamp on the pedal the brakes lock straight away but if you depress it smoothly, even with the pedal fully depressed they still won't lock (at the beginning of the braking zone).

Glad to hear you're up and running - must look especially beautiful on your beast of a machine!
You do need to be a little careful on the brakes, but as usual there's more than one way to skin the proverbial. The simplest thing to do is to look at the brake power %age figure and the F:R balance in the setup and tweak accordingly, but it's probably quicker to trail a little throttle under braking to keep the car stable. How much you trail depends on how unstable the car is going to get - I had to use quite a lot under heavy braking last night in the Escort at Zolder to keep is pointing forwards.
The trick then is to reduce the amount of throttle as you get to your turn in point to make the car unstable again so it will turn easily, then balance the whole lot on a mixture of throttle (gradually increasing) and brake (gradually decreasing) until the apex, and exit under full throttle with a puff of tyre smoke and a dab of opposite lock.
That's the theory, anyway
Edited to add: You're right to go the no-aids route - you'll only have to relearn everything if you use them to start with.

I think there is a cheat to get all the cars and tracks, no tried that yet. The sound effects in the game are brilliant, specially with the speakers turned up! If you haven't found it yet, go into the Car dealer screen and you can test drive all but a few of the cars round a few short tracks AC Cobra sounds awesome

OK cool - i think i'll cheat and unlock them all as i've never interested in offline gaming, plus i lose interest in games before i finish them (for the most part !)
Will be about this evening if anyone wants a little friendly paint trading
I find the offline stuff a very useful way to learn tracks and cars.
Missed the start I'm afraid, but I've been busy unlocking everything. Just found out I'm going to have to spend four months in the US with work (quite excited actually ), but I'm not waiting that long to get my teeth into the Daytona Cobra, GT40, 906, 275 etc. You were all mid-race by the time I got there so I went racing somewhere else.
Will check back now to see if you're done...

Some good races last night for my first GTL experience. The racing seems a lot more fluid/smooth and the cars are less choppy and dont look like they are fishtailing all the time like they do in GTR... Took me a few races to notice that all the driving aids were on - i thought it felt a bit too easy !!
The only bad thing was a lot of the drivers on the server didnt appreciate that these cars needed to be slowed earlier and not driven like GTR cars - i had a couple of people come in on the inside way too fast into a corner that got tighter - understeered massively and then took me out... I had people punt me off the track coming into chicanes trying to perform impossible outbraking moves, and i had people tapping my rear end (sometimes i think it was deliberate)to take me off the track.
Apart from that i love the game and its been a superb purchase. Just need to stick to servers with mature drivers though. Thats the same in all games though i guess !
I'm on again tonight if anyone wants some racing
