Seems every time I manage to get in a helicopter there are 3 guys hiding in the bushes with stingers!

My pet hate since the patch gave them a massive buff - reload quicker than the aircraft counter measures, ignore below radar and have a huge range. One hit disables the aircraft.

Seems Dice can never get a balance update right - stingers used to be useless, now one guy with one, hidden well can control the airspace over a map.

Apart from Jets which are nigh on impossible to shoot down!

I'm not sure why but I've found the best way to shoot down jets is with a Little Bird and heat seakers. If they come in for a gun run then your own guns are usually more effective as it's easier to target them from a high altitude hover.

Are gunmaster games specific to one of the expansions?

If I could last more than 12 seconds in a Little Bird, I'd be all over that.

IMO.. It's kind of fair the stinger reloads quicker than the countermeasures. If theres someone on the map whos going to go anti-aircraft, and the chopper won't fly away to reload it's countermeasures then it deserves to be downed.

A couple of hours on air map servers will see you right. I used to be rubbish, now I'm pretty confident in them. They aren't a game winning solution but they have their uses. For anti air they're surprisingly good - going head to head with attack choppers I win most of the time as it's easy to get above them where the gunner can't hit you whilst hammering them with your own guns.

I'll give it a go. Killing stuff from the air is the only area of BF I've really not got good at yet. Particularly jets, just can't seem to get myself in the right place at the right time...

That's fair enough, but there are certain maps where, if you position yourself correctly, there is literally nowhere for a helicopter to hide.

E.g. Gulf of Oman, if you're on the high tower at the construction site, you can see and lock on to a helicopter flying anywhere (within normal limits for foot soldiers) on the map.

I believe the same is true if you're on top of the hill (Flag C) at Caspian Border.

IMO, they either need to bring back below radar against stingers, shorten the range of them or make them a two hit disable. Preferably a combination of the first two.

The key with jets is to target other jets and attack helicopters using a combination of heatseakers and guns. It's interesting because you end up essentially playing an entirely different game to those on the ground - you're only concern is the airspace, what happens on the ground is almost entirely irrelevant to you.

Once you've got a fair few hours of practice doing that you can start taking on vehicles and soldiers on the ground.

I'd suggest avoiding the F-35s at first two - they are really handy when you get used to them, but a pig to fly if you're a beginner.

The balancing is just mad.

Now tanks can be destroyed in 2 seconds by a plane, it is one pass and the tank is worthless. On Kharg Island a decent pilot can basically stop the entire team getting from the ship to the shore.

One hit from a stinger and the aircraft is down.

Can anyone tell me why:

1. When I fly a plane, the entire enemy team run Iglas and launch a dozen of them at once.. When I am running the Igla to take out the enemy planes, I am the only person doing so which means flares/ECM keeps it flying all day long

2. When I am in the tank, RPGs and Javelins are launched at me to the extent that I can't see the sky for the smoke of the trails... When I am trying to take out a tank, I fire my RPG then have the enemy come steaming at me.

3. When I spawn I can die before my screen even forms properly. Yet when I see someone spawn I can put a whole clip into them only to have them turn around and shoot me dead.

4. When I deploy Soflam, no-one bothers with Javelins. When I am flying/driving and there is an enemy soflam, it's like there are 10 engineers on the enemy team.....

5. When I am destroying tanks with my zoom optics, the enemy have two engineers repairing furiously. When I am taking rounds, my tank is toast. (same applies for helicopters).

6. When I use the 9k-22 to shoot at the Amtrak, the Amtrak kills me in seconds. Yet when I am in the Amtrack the 9k-22 kills me first...

If a chopper is running ECM jamming, how do you take it down?

See my post above. You need two people running Javelins. As soon as ECM has blocked the first the second person fires before the ECM recharges and you can take it down.

Ah right, thanks!

We were playing on the map when you start on a ship, at a dockyard.. The enemy just had us sat on the ship, couldn't get off of it, plus their chopper pilot was ridiculously good. I was the only idiot trying to take him down.. Never happened.

could your issues be lag related? do you join only euro servers?

i'd echo what you say about lock on etc. its a right PITA. I found when flying the chopper that if you lock on, fire one round then reload. they drop flare, wait for a few seconds and you can usually just about get off your 2 rounds cleanly.

I don't have any problems taking down choppers/jets from the ground, it's just timing. Generally, it's just a case of locking them up with the stinger but not firing straight away, wait for them to panic deploy counter measures then lock them up again and fire. Kill rate is higher the closer you are. I spend most of my time flying to be honest and can stay in the air most games although if you've got someone that knows what they are doing with a stinger/javelin/SOFLAM then it makes for a lot of landing and repairing. Nothing worse than a SOFLAM from a pilots point of view! The little red laser is like a red rag to a bull and usually involves me flying head first into it unloading everything i've got. Kharg is the one map that can really be controlled by the SOFLAM.

Only played it again the other night after a few months of not even looking at the xbox, ground to air vs jets seems to be pretty effective now. Starting to annoy me that even when deploying ECM i'm still getting hit by a stinger after trying to outrun it for a good 20 seconds or so and even deploying ECM for a second time?!? No SOFLAM lock on..Strange.

ECM seems pretty st on the jets, I've reverted to flares for exactly this reason.
Seems ok on the choppers though.

Could be. I certainly get a lot of lag related issues with my 2mbps connection.... I also get shot down a lot when I fly as it doesn't make the beep beep beep noise when a missile is launched at me most of the time (in fact I only get sound at all about 40% of the time - save for my own guns).

I also find quite often my screen doesn't say "lock" so if I spam the fire button the Igla still launches..........

But a decent pilot with only one person going after them can stay in the air practically for the whole game IMHO. The Igla doesn't have much range either so they can leg it and break the lock on as well to re-load the flares.
