I love taking down the choppers, it annoys me when people leave them to fly around and fk us up. No, get on engineer and take it down!

The jets are more hardwork, but you can take them down with Stingers too. Just got to be quick!

I`m a Hardcore convert. Until I`d played with PHers I never knew about Hardcore either, I hated it at first too, probably because I`m not a very good player, but the more I played Hardcore I really prefered it. I also try to find servers with no mini map either.

Yep, I for some reason, didn't know BF3 had hardcore. Much prefer it.

Just been playing now.. I fking hate it when a team has a few players who can really fly a chopper/jet. It's impossible if you're the only bd on the team trying to take them down.

It's never been easier to take down aircraft then it is currently - just get your stinger and explosives perk out. They'll either have to leave you alone or be shot down.

As for not using a mini-map - it infuriates me enough when I know there is a tank/helicopter nearby but can't locate it due to inaccurate sound and it not being on the mini-map. It's even worse with no mini-map ever.

You're already playing the game with only the letter box of your screen to see through (no peripheral vision) but not having the map to make up for the lack of audio authentic feedback just makes it worse.

Obviously it's a game, not reality, but can you imagine being in a warehouse, hearing a shot and not knowing the rough direction of where it came from? The mini-map makes perfect sense for this. If you don't want to be spotted on one - fit a suppressor.

I'm not saying it's not difficult to take them down, it's relatively easy.. But, today the enemy had their two jets, and two choppers, and all of the people flying them knew how to.. Ripping us apart, so theres me trying to take them down on my own. No chance.

played Kharg last week, got lock on a jet and fired, he fired off his ecm

i reloaded and got bead on him again instantly, waited for the lock and fired
his ecm had reloaded in the mean time and fired them off

so i reloaded/fired and same again happened.

Ive given up trying to take jets down as generally its to hard to get a lock on them long enough and when you do, they deploy counter measure and dip down

Yet take the heli - its a death trap.

Also tanks are becoming death traps as well, sometimes 2 hits from an rpg on a reactive armoured tank does them in yet othertime there invincible to them. Then theres the LAV vs tank and the lav normally wins whilst the Amtracs just piss weak now

You need a high speed connection to play it IMHO. Because the damage is that much higher, the lag that I get with my speed means I just die left right and centre.

A good jet pilot will afterburn out of there and avoid the stinger, but equally you're limiting the time he can use to do something useful. If they're towards the edge of lock on range it's not worth bothering with. Depends on the map for me - I shoot down loads of jets on Arboraz for example, don't usually bother much on Karg.
Helis are pretty vulnerable these days, strangely addictive though. On Armoured Sheild they're just complete cannon fodder, hilarious if you're the cannon of course smile

Tanks are much more vulnerable than they used to be, particularly against a good squad of engineers, but then that's the point. You need to move, rather than sitting there slugging it out. And a good gunner makes a massive difference, very rare though.

Glad someone else mentioned about helis - I spent a lot of time unlocking the "Get to the Choppa" dog tag, which requires 25 tank destroys (not disables).

It nearly caused the early demise of my controller, the TV and cat!

First you had to deal with the enemy chopper, then watch out for jets, then dodge any stingers whilst trying to find a tank. Then God forbid if the tank had two people in it and guided shells as one would just lock you up with the laser pointer and the other would blast you out of the sky with the guided missile.

Likewise with the shotgun shell in the tank, it takes at least two passes to kill a tank with rockets (even without it being repaired), giving the driver ample time to fire off plenty of rounds at you.

Even then you had to hope that the driver/passengers didn't have a stinger as they'd just get out and shoot you down with that!

It took me a lot of time (and deaths) to rack up those tank kills! banghead

Completely agree with you and I love playing the tank gunner, but again that depends to a degree on the driver - it seems a good percentage are happy to spam rounds from 300 miles away, or go charging in to an enemy area that's heavy with cover and expect to survive for more than 30 seconds. Drivers who are somewhere in the middle are rare.

The worst moments in BF3 for me are when you're on a team that is vastly outmatched in air warfare by the other team. If your team doesn't have decent pilots themselves and the enemy jets have free reign to do bombing runs, etc then it's a deeply unfulfilling experience.

Likewise when I've been in the mobile AA and the enemy combat chopper (?) is firing rockets into me from the other side of the map, outside of my lock range (not that the AA missiles would ever hit anyway because they're just ECM/flare and retreat for a few seconds). That's decent piloting though really so there isn't much to complain about (but it's still annoying).

There will be a lot of that over the next few weeks while everyone plays with the new toy. Just worked out that its in the Gadget 1 slot, you get it once you have 3 Scavenger match wins (although its freely available to pick up in scavenger) and then need to get kills with it to get a sight/different bolts. Only managed one kill with it last night, decided that it wasn’t of much use while we all ran around like headless chickens, exploring the map, should be better once it settles down. The explosive bolt I guess will be the most useful to have in your armoury, particularly as recon as it means you’ll be able to pack a harder punch.

I got a kill with it last night without even having downloaded Aftermath! A few guys were running around on Bazaar and Seine with it and I managed to kill one and nick their kit. smile

Seems like the normal bolt at least is just an alternative to a knife take down or finishing someone off with your pistol - it doesn't do enough damage or reload fast enough to make it any good as a primary weapon.

On another note - how clunky is the PS3 DLC process?! First you have to find the content, then download it, then find where it's downloaded, then activate it.

Surely they could/should make it a one button press job in one of the game menus?

So what was the 2GB thing I downloaded overnight then? Poxy thing, does that mean I've got more to download? My poor connection can't cope!

Just them fixing the fk ups they made at the original release but still not fixing all the bugs. What they should do, is like COD, sort it out as it goes along, ie weapons, does it really take them 3 months to sort out a quick tweek of the stats?

COD would have had that st sorted quickly

I got onto the PH server for an hour last night and I was SHOCKING!!!

too much recent Medal of Hhonour and Hitman meant I was throwing grenades instead of aiming and basically getting shot.

Scavenger seems to be 150% gun and run and oh yes, I was also st at the crossbow. The ground about 50 yards in front of me better watch out when I have that baby oh yes!

I like the idea though, although the mix of scavenger and flag control feels abit odd...
