Cazadores - Laser RCW works well, too. Best anti-Deathclaw weapon is the YCS-186, as the Tesla-Beaton proto uses too much ammo. Mercy is also effective, but only at range, so be ready to switch.

There are good mods on New Vegas Nexus, notably "New Vegas Bounties" and "A World of Pain" which add quests and locations galore. Also some neat new weapons, including the Nasty Grandpa (drum fed hand carried 0.50 cal machinegun) which is cheating, but in a good way, and specifically designed to make Deathclaw-hunting a family pastime. "Animated Prostitution" is another 'interesting' mod if you like that sort of thing.

I've done everything in the vanilla game, including NCR and Yes Man endings (can't face working for the Legion or Mr House) but I'm still working through AWOP. That has some properly challenging enemies, and is good fun if you limit your selection of weapons and armour. "Increased Wasteland Spawns" is worth having if you just fancy half an hour of mindless bloodshed - just FT to somewhere commonly populated by factions that don't like you, and kill them. You will need fairly serious compute horsepower for high spawn rates, as you can get overwhelming numbers of enemies - several dozen Fiends at a time, for instance.

I played "New Vegas Bounties" last night and it was a giggle. Although I think there may be a bug - I killed the Regulator sheriff guy as I was unable to talk him out of leaving, but when I returned to see Randall he was not there. Is that a bug or part of the storyline?

There is a point when he's no longer there, look for a note pinned to the painting

Ah. Thanks for that. I've probably reached that point. I'll look for the note then.

I'm now on my second play through on this. First time as a guy second time as a girl.

Positives over Fallout 3

Changing gender can effect core missions (second time round I was a slut and slept with Benny then murdered him in his sleep hehe )

Some of the fights seemed more varied and tactical. In particular clearing out the Deathclaws which I did with an Incenerator, hunting rifle, Frag mines and a Magnum (and Boone when he wasn't knocked out)

Less time spent in dark buildings and tunnels

But it is not a major step forward and they need to make the main quests more open ended, improve the level of the combat to a decent FPS, and create a bigger more varied world.
They need to fix the bugs as well, crashes every hour on average for me in the late game (ps3 version).

That's what frustrates me. FO3 was full of bugs that seem to be part of the main game engine, and they don't appear to have made any effort to address them in New Vegas.

Its pretty stable for me on the pc with ultra (plus abit more) graphics. Its was 100% stable up untill about 80% through the game...then had a few crashes and a corrupt save but seemed to iron itself out. Perhaps main quest related.

Yup, I saw that too. But based on the panning it has had here I don't think I'm going to bother.

I'm doing "A World of Pain" at the moment. The Underground is enormous and the guy who made it has clearly put a lot of effort into it (and fair play to him). I'm finding it all a bit boring though - it's just mindless killing. I know that's all it promises to be, but even so it's not that engaging.

Well, I think I completed the main quest last night.

First of all, when I got to Legate's camp half of the floor in the middle of the camp was missing. At first I thought it was part of the story and someone had developed a terrain-swallowing machine or something. So I stepped into the missing floor and fell for about 10 seconds before dying. rolleyes

I reloaded my saved game, entered Legate's camp again and this time the floor was intact. I killed all the bad guys then made my way out to 'deal with the NCR'. I had a quick chat with that Oliver guy, talked him out of fighting, then he walked off and the game froze.

banghead

How can a game get released in this state?

Oh that happened to me before too! I fell and died, then tried walking around the edge but couldn't get all the way around!

Yep, I tried walking around the edges too!

Then, after I'd killed the main guy with the big sword the mission pointer was just pointing at his body. I didn't realise I had to kill all the other Legion guys that had now gathered at the bottom of the hill (about eight of them). They weren't attacking me because I had the big guys helmet on. hehe

So I put a big line of frag mines on the path, ran to the top of it, fired a couple of Anabelle rockets at the Legion guys then went and hid. Eventually the survivors found me so I took a Turbo and punched them to hell with Pushy. hehe

I just did this quest today. It was ok, and gives a choice of two decent safehouses at the end with useful inventory sorters.

banghead I know I've asked about this before. But now I'm level 29 nearly 30 and only have maybe 5 more places on the map to visit. But I STILL. can't kill everyone in Caesars tent!

Especially annoying as because psn is down I've spent a few hours tonight playing this and I can't get any further! Any tips? I just want the bloody chip!

I managed by entering then going out straight away, then running away! they chase after you but get slowed down by your companions, so with loads of chems you can get the first ones OK, nick their ballistic fists (several, to make one good one), and then charge back in. The dogs and 2 or 3 of caesar's guys will stay in.

I have too admit though I had it on easy mode, I hate playing a game where I struggle to get past some bits for ages, I feel it ruins the story for me. Also I am usually rubbish and probably would still be getting killed by geckos outside Goodsprings!

That's a point, I'm always carrying loads of stuff around (and Ed-e and Boone are full too), mostly weapons that "will come in handy some day", including loads of mines, but I never thought to use them! I'll try and travel lighter on my next playthrough.

Has anybody gone against the NCR? I went along the "normal" course first, helping the NCR, but if I decided to side with another group, will I end up with loads of enemies wherever I go? I don't like the sound of that.
