I've just recently managed to get a decent PC and have purchased ETS2 but its quite a lot different to the original one I used to play many years ago. Do any of you have any tips on what career moves to make i.e which country to start in and what trucks to buy? Also has anyone got any experience of using a wheel with this game, I hooked up my Fanatec PWTS, most of the functions work properly although I cant get the shifter to work - any ideas?

downloaded the demo smile, pretty quickly considering the crap internet in dumfries.

i can only run it on the lowest setting, it seems relatively smooth on the lowest setting, not super smooth, no idea of the frame rate (is there a way to check?), graphics are bareable on the lowest setting, i am trying to run it on a 32" cheap chinese tv which i use as a monitor, my man cave consists of 2 32" tvs, one for computer and one as a tv, resolution i was running at 1200x800, forgot to change it and see.

found it really hard to play with keyboard for steering, and trying to look with the mouse, on/off trottle and making 5 turns ins for a slight bend in the road became amusing. would be fun on the g27. i forgot to check in game but are the trucks 900 degree steering? the g27 is 900 degree, 5 turns lock to lock i think.

also how does the H shifter work, i noticed there was a setting for H shifter, but there are 12 gears, does it incorporate some kind of low/high ratio, you go through first 6, press a button and then you get another 6?

my first run didnt go to well, carlisle to newcastle with 20tn of food. started off fine, then missed my turn off and had to take a trip down the A1, i forgot the speedlimit, and got a speeding fine, then when i took the slip road to cross over, i forgot about the trailer and took down a stop sign, then grinded the barrier for 50m or so. eventually made it to newcastle, took about 5 minutes to park, couldnt get my head around parking, every way i wanted the trailer to go it went the opposite, and the keyboard steering was annoying, trying to re-centre the wheel after every failed attempt.

still unsure as to buy it. it was fun, but would really appreciate slightly better graphics and running a bit smoother, im not overly fussed about super HD, but its just under the fun/graphics ratio.

Just out of interest what do the Skill levels go up to? I'm on 41 King of the Road and can see level 42 ahead. Is it a Hitch Hikers Guide thing?

G27 is 900* and the H shifter works by normal gears and if you set a button it changes into another range of gears

just picked it up in steam sale, and its a surprisingly relaxing game. just finished a few deliveries now, but still nowhere near enough to buy my own truck yet.

Looking online i see there a fairly healthy modding scene for this game, is there any mods i should be looking at right now to improve the experience?

Also i still haven't figured out how to get a radio stream in game.

Adding a stream to the list?

Find the ETS2 folder in your My Documents, it's separate from the Steam folder (and also where you stick the mods), and open live_streams.sii in notepad. Add another line at the bottom, incrementing the number, paste in your stream url including the port, and give it a name.

A mod to replace the company names/trailers is a must for me, makes things a bit more realistic (I'd also suggest this), and the Real Physics mod is worth a try. Heavier/oversized loads are worth looking for also. Whatever takes your fancy otherwise, installing only involves dumping them in the aforementioned folder and enabling/disabling them (edit, on the profile selection screen).

I need a bit of help!

I've stupidly taken a load from Newcastle to Lyon, however I only had €610 to my name, and had 1/4 of a tank left, so put €500 worth of fuel in, thinking that €100 would be enough to get over to France.

It isn't.

What do I do now? BTW I'm on ETS, not ETS2!

Edit - Never mind, cheated and worked it out xD.

is there any way to change the field of view, i watched a couple videos on youtube and it seems some people viewpoint is a bit further back, allowing to see a bit more which seems better.

but there doesnt seem to be an option for it, and havent came across any mods.

Yes two ways of altering the views.

1 is cab forward
2 is chase view
3 is helicopter overhead

Forget the rest.

If you have a numkeypad then

5 is cab straight ahead
4 is left
6 is right
7 is forward left
9 is forward right
8 is straight ahead from further back than 5

I've found a way to play ETS2 on my Mac, however its really crappy and slow (press forward and it takes a second or two to move, same when turning left or right).

I'm currently looking at buying a PC to play it on frown.

mines isnt great, just playable, but noticed after a while the frame rate drops a bit, and gets a bit laggy,

just wondering, would an external graphics card make any difference, im not looking at anything big, a friend is selling his old one, no idea it is but hes a computery person, other than i was looking at a cheapo one on ebay, something like this

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NVIDIA-Palit-GeForce-GF-...

Mainly i need one to dual link my 2 monitors, but would it make any difference to the game, currently on lowest settings with a couple of options ticker, textures medium etc.

but will it improve the frame mate, make it run a little smoother, or is that just a power issue?

Can the various views (the number keys just mentioned) be transferred to the steering wheel buttons on the Logitech G27 wheel?

In the setup screen there are joystick and wheel settings for look up-down axis and look left-right axis so I guess so.

This game is awesome. Sat here playing it on my lunch and I get a text on my phone, so I pick it up to have a look, meanwhile my truck veers out of lane and scrapes a car. Fantastic. hehe

Plus if you've got a telly in the kitchen you can take a laptop in there and be elephant racing while watching a prawn video, sexting on your phone while cooking your tea and no old bill on the roads to give you grief either. Just like real life.
