Going exclusively one platform?

Frankly the XBO is pretty underwhelming, cant comment on the PS4 as I don't have one but I doubt its any different.
My biggest gripe with the XBO is the limited range of games. If you like shooting people in the face then the XBO has that covered with wide range of near identical FPS / over the shoulder shooters! If you want something a little more intelligent then forget it. Console gaming has become so stale these days - no one dares do anything different game wise which is why everything is a clone, of a clone, of an underwhelming FPS - with added DLC / micro transactions thrown in.
I keep mulling over getting a gaming PC as there is such broad variety of games available for the PC, however I want to be able to switch on and play and not bother with updating drivers, or finding I cant play a certain game because I don't have the latest graphics card. Also I want to sit on my sofa and play on a big TV rather than hunched over a desk in an office chair. If you could get relatively fuss free PC gaming in the front room I would swap tomorrow. The steam box was supposed to bridge that gap, but that seems to have stalled!
I get where you're coming from but the indie scene is great fun at the moment. Fire Watch, Everyone's Gone to the Rapture, Soma etc. Truly great games. fk the mainstream stuff. My biggest gripe with the XBO is the limited range of games. The Steam Machines seem to be pathetically underpowered when compared to a half way decent PC. Still good, but you have to spent a fortune. And even then, not all PC games work - only the stuff that works on Steam Big Picture (from what I understand)
They make a big fuss about how they are the go to console for indie titles yet only offer a limited number of titles and the actively put up barriers stopping indie developers getting their titles on XBL. I have only bought 2 mainstream games in the past 12 months (Fallout 4 and Rainbow 6 Siege) I have however bought a bunch of indie titles over the same period.
Just have both. I've always had some sort of console (currently PS4) and a PC. The PS4 is great for when I want to play on couch for FIFA or going online to shoot my friends in the face.
The PC is better for RPG and Strategy type games. You can play FPS games on it and well too as the player count is usually larger but I find it too much of a faff and more enjoyable on the console.

There is a money/time/focus factor involved though, for me anyway. Modern platforms all require some upkeep (if you leave a modern console/pc off for two months while you are distracted with another platform, you WILL be hit by updates the next time you feel like playing a game), and right now i dont have the money for getting both either... Im quite torn on the PC bit though, i kinda of want to upgrade my current rig (a humble GTX 950 would do the job, ive got a 650 now), but to actually play the games i want the GPU for, i would need windows, and i dont want to bother with dual booting (last time i tried linux and windows ended up fighting over control over the bootloader), and while i have enough parts to just build a second machine (sans the GPU) that feels kinda silly.
I suppose I could have both but I just feel it's abit of a waste having both when one is barely used at all. I will have a look at Project Cars and see if I warm to it enough to buy it.
No Man's Sky is the next game I'm definitely getting but unsure which platform to get it on, and hence this thread.
Conkerman here's everything in it's "just before I dust it" glory

Considering your specs (even with just the 970), i wouldnt even bother with consoles save for exclusives, if a game is available on PC, itll run better, be cheaper and look better with your rig.
About sums it up. Plus will probably work out cheaper given they are looking at releasing new versions of the PS4/XBone to make them more powerful.vonuber said:

They wont be stupid enough to make some games exclusive to the new versions though, that would ps off their entire installed base, and make the market for said games a LOT smallerBut yeah, if you have a competent PC there is no reason to get a console beyond exclusives
Ok so I downloaded and installed DS4, it registers my controller brilliantly and I can see the triggers working as triggers rather than buttons. Unfortunately none of my racing games recognise the controller (still works on Assassin's Creed though). It's an annoying thing having to mess around but I guess it's the only annoyance
Anyone got any DS4 knowledge to get the PS4 controller recognised in any of my driving games?
