World of Warships

I've just unlocked the Kongo but have only played a couple of games in it so far, and both were pretty dire. However, I haven't sold the Myogi as I quite liked it. Only down side with it that I am not keen on is the total lack of AA armament.
Battleships do seem a little tough to get into, it's really important to make your shots count with them, which can be difficult given the extreme ranges they can shoot up to. I've only just recently worked out how to get more reliable citadel hits too. I'd imagined (because I hadn't bothered to research it) that the citadel was the bridge of the ship. It's actually not, it's the armoured core of the vessel where the crew quarters, magazine etc are. Essentially its in the middle of the hull between the furthest back of the front turrets and furthest forward of the rear turrets.
I've added an early alpha screenshot that demonstrates where it is:
If you can reliably hit the citadel with the large calibre AP battleship shells then mucho damage results.
Nice graphics there.
A rule of thumb is to shoot the hull below the smoke stacks to hit the engines and hit below the gun turrets to hit the magazines. That's if you're close and accurate enough to aim at point targets of course. If the ship is coming towards you, aim at the bow, rather than the superstructure. You may hit the forward magazine that way.
If anything they've completely toned down the blast, flame and noise of the big guns, magazine explosions etc.
This is the USS Wisconsin having a last hurrah with her 16" guns, before being retired.

She's now a museum ship in Norfolk, Virginia. Iowa class battleships like this one will be the US tier 9 in World of Warships. The tier 10 will be the Montana class, which was never actually built as they realised the priority was going to be aircraft carriers and the Iowa class was good enough.
This footage is of the British battleship HMS Barham, which was torpedoed by a U-Boat in the Mediterranean in 1941. As she capsized, her rear magazine blew up, with great loss of life.

HMS Hood was one-shot by the Bismark in similar fashion. You can see men running down the side of the Barham as she rolls over. An old neighbour of mine was on aircraft carriers in the war. It was either Ark Royal or Eagle, I can't remember. Anyway, it was also torpedoed in the Med. He said he was able to walk down the side of the listing ship into the sea before it sank.
Here's what a kamikaze plane did to the USS John Burke, a liberty ship carrying ammunition:

Yeah...It's not just nuclear weapons that can cause mushroom clouds.

Update 0.3.1 will be out in a few days and it promises to bring a lot of important changes.
Not least among them:
Japanese Aircraft Carriers
US Battleships
More here:

They're also adding the Furutaka, a Japanese cruiser to the empty spot at tier 5. That's good, because I'm currently 5K into a 19K grind with the tier 4 Kuma.

Just had a few epic games in the Omaha Cruiser, both times nailing at least one battleship for my troubles, the second game was a loss but still made over 100k credits for the trouble after going 1 v 1 on a fuso, getting blown up but not before I'd dropped some torpedoes in range of him.
The first game was a cracker though, as I'd initially done some damage to an enemy cruiser, with a salvo of AP hitting his citadel and blowing him up before I turned to avoid the rest of his friends knocking me out and using a island for cover. Though in turn this let me right into the path of a Kongo.. who's secondaries opened up on me but oddly his primarys were focused on the other battle ships.
Bad idea!.. Cue me launching a full spread of Torpedos and having 6 of the 8 hit which was enough to completely total him as well.

Loving the game, especially the St Louis. Just rammed another cruiser in one with my last few hull points,I got blown up by someone else but took him with me!
Still not quite mastered torps, managed to miss a Langley from very short range ,but I do love diving about at the back at speed, hunting CVs
There's a small (25Mb) patch out today which adds the Royal Navy to the game. There's just one ship though so far, the premium HMS Warspite, but it's nice to see.
There's 2 more superfiring (one above the other) 15" gun turrets like that on the blunt end.
Pity they don't give you any free gold to buy it, but still.
Oh and it's tier 6.

Well that's good. I just don't have a crew for it. If my ST-I crew ever unlocks the IS-4, I'll stick them in the IS-7.
My best Russian heavy crew is back in the IS and I'm loath to sell that. I have a newer crew in the KV-1S as well.
Back to the Warpite, Jingles posted a looooooong look at it:

I had a game (vs humans) with the Minikaze, tier 5 Japanese destroyer yesterday. Sank 4 ships, including an aircraft carrier and did over 100,000 damage with torpedoes alone. Still lost.

A look at the forthcoming US battleships by some of the developers:

Starts about 28 minutes in. Check out those nerds though.

Here's what the US and Japanese research tree will look like:

So it looks like I need to rebuy the Chester to play US battleships.
