How would one attach it to the snowboard also?
I wouldn't recommend it in all honesty. There's too much vibration going through your snowboard (especially at each end, where the angle would be best) which makes the footage near-enough useless and unwatchable. If you're dead set on doing it though, I'd use one of the regular stick-on mounts (fixed in warm dry conditions before you go, and maybe using something extra strong for the adhesive) and make sure you have the camera tethered to your bindings, just in case.I'm planning to have a crack at making a shin-based strap mount (just under the knee) for my front leg. If the angle is such that I can get the front of the board in then I think it might look good and should be stable enough to avoid motion sickness.
The tried and tested GoPro on a pole is probably still the single best on-board angle, if you can ride like that.
I've taken the plunge and ordered a silver, which will be coming back from the US next week with a colleague - $299 over there, so a saving that's not to be sniffed at...
I've also thrown in a whole load of mount options in too (MUCH cheaper than our prices - e.g. $10 for adhesive mounts, not £20), so can hopefully have a play with it soon!

Can someone with a Black answer a couple of Q's I have please, before I go ahead and buy?
1. Can you charge the battery *away* from the camera? It's always a hassle if you have two batteries but they need charging whilst attached to the camera. You can't use the camera while you're charging.
2. I've heard to get best audio you need to attach an external mic. Quite happy to do so if that's the case but the accessories suggest you need a 3.5mm jack to micro USB which would leave the mic dangling. Is there a mic that can affix directly to the camera itself?
Many thanks.

Another Q (sorry).
How long will it record for? Let's say I have a 63GB card and wish to record in 1080p/60, how long will it record? Is there a way I can calculate this?
It might be that 720 is enough for me, and at lower frame rates, as long as it looks sharp and smooth on both a PC screen and 40 inch HD TV. Basically I'm going on a 10-day driving tour. I'd like to be able to mount a camera in the windscreen and **constantly** capture the stream. If there was a way to stream to HDD that would probably be best.
Any ideas anyone?

If it was me I would run it off the car no need to worry about charging batteries.1. Can you charge the battery *away* from the camera? It's always a hassle if you have two batteries but they need charging whilst attached to the camera. You can't use the camera while you're charging.
What do you want to record and what do you want out of it?

Can't help with the 3 but the 2 will record the followingHow long will it record for? Let's say I have a 63GB card and wish to record in 1080p/60, how long will it record? Is there a way I can calculate this?

1080 @ 25 fps = 4H 45M
720 @ 25 fps = 7H 05M
This is using a 32Gb card
We use these

to record onto hard drives however they are not cheep and I've have never used one with a Gopro (don't really see the need). I would stick with SD cards tbh.

The answer is that to charge the battery you need to use the old style battery back pack. Reason being that the batteries themselves have to be put into something to charge, like the camera. The Hero 3 battery back pack can be charged away from the camera, but it's battery is integrated. The hero 1 and 2 back pack can also be charged away from the camera, but the battery isn't integrated. So you can swap them. I believe (but I've written to gopro to check) that the hero 1/2 back packs will still work with the hero 3.
That's exactly what I need to know too. Thanks for this. Please let us know if/when they write back. Thanks again.

I want flexibility to use it away from the car - the price represents a fair investment for me, so it needs to work everywhere. What do you want to record and what do you want out of it?
I am embarking on a bit of an unusual tour next year. I want to record constantly for 10 days (awake time) and have the capacity to edit it later. In the car I'll do exactly as you suggest, power off the car electrics.

I was sort of hoping I might stream out to a portable USB drive, even if it meant taking a laptop with me as "host".
I'm now wondering whether I just have it in position on tour and just flick it on and off whenever it looks "opportune".
Or... I could afford to take 3x 64GB cards with me which ought to last me a day's worth of driving. I should have enough time in the evenings to copy them onto a portable drive.
