Enjoy your trip to NZ, John. For a photographer I'm sure it will be a real feast. We are hoping to be out there around that time...

You should definitely take a tripod, your D70, and something to store the thousands and thousands of pictures you will want to take. The South Island IMO is one of the most beautiful places on Earth - for a photographer like yourself it will be irresistable.

When the wife and I went - we took a compact digital and that was it - the reason being that we toured in a BMW Z3 and could only carry the "smallest one" of everything. Next time, for a change, we'll rent a 4WD and I'm taking EVERYTHING!
