looks like there are plenty on the dark side - but we are quieter in general than the cludders. i might as well register myself here

I was for many years a "dark-sider". AT-1, AV-1 and AE-1. Loved them all! Parted with the others, but in fact only just put the AV-1 up on fleabay this week!
I have to say that compared to my digital body, the 25 year old Canons are gloriously light and well built
About a decade ago, I decided that I wanted to move up to autofocus systems and hence I went away from Canon, they bloomin' well changed their mount
. It's only because I have lots of N-glass that I can still use that I haven't come back now.
But don't let the Clud-clan know I've been in here making these admissions! Though I know little about the current range, I would happily consider a Canon again - great gear

One bit of advice; the lens that comes with the 350D kit is almost worthless. You are better off buying the EFS17-85mm IS USM with the body. It is a much better "daily" lens.
...now I just have to save up for the 75-300 IS USM lens...
