Not too sure about CLS but it does say full TTL with Nikon. What do you think?

Unless it says D70, which it doesn't, I'm sceptical. The D70 is very fussy about what you strap onto it.

'Uses AF camera's TTL circuit for exposure control'.

What does AF (autofocus) has to do with TTL (through the lens metering)...?

The PDF is dated 2000, so that's well before the D70, which is not good. I suspect you'd have to use the camera in manual exposure mode and adjust as required - not ideal for catching critters!

That's just my hunch, but if you want the full monty, check the close-up forum or flash forum at www.nikonians.com.

on D lenses the AF position is used to calculate the distance to subject, which is then used in the flash exposure calculation

..BTW - I FINALLY caught up with that bee.

Superb shot of a Eristalis tenax (drone-fly of the hover-fly family) but where's the bee?

By the way, is that just a resize or a crop?

Bit of a crop on that one - I've lost about 15% of the pic on the left hand side so it's about 3000 pixels wide - it prints out to A3 and still looks pretty mean.

I'm really contemplating getting one of these lenses now actually, that's very impressive, I'd love to do more macro work.

It's a bitch to work mind. DOF is SO narrow - and if you're chasing 'hover flys' who refuse to stay still, you'll fill tha card in minutes.

Good fun though.

I think the fly was a bit ambitious I'll have to start saving my pennies, by the time I've saved up I might be able to take better photos
