Spotted this chap in New York state today, he was sat up in a tree for ages before making the trip across the lake. Unfortunately he was a good couple of hundred metres away so not the greatest shot (had to crop a fair bit to get this), but still pleased I managed to spot him.

Sorry this is, well, a bit crap but hey it's my first birder shot with my 100-400. It's a bloody big heavy beast and to be honest I'm in two minds as to whether I'm keen enough to warrant the investment. By the time I had this and a few other lenses in my rucksack I could hardly lift the bloody thing!

You'll get used to it. Think of it as a fitness aid. Carry it everywhere. Cheaper than gym membership (over a few months).

wink

Hehe should try an airshow day with the 120-300f2.8!!

If your always shooting at 400 then the 400/5.6 prime makes more sense, but it takes time and effort and correct technique to get the best out of any 400 mm lens.

Don't need to go to a gym - lots of heavy camera kit to carry around .....

Well, that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it through thick and, er, thicker. Indeed I need the extra 'winter weight' to counterbalance the camera case I bought a few months ago. It's just so uncool lying on one's back waving arms and legs in the air like an inverted ladybird and unable to move back to an upright position. hehe

This fella really was mocking me.(noisy bugger)

Magpie mobbing a kestrel. My first outing with 55-300mm ( Top of a pylon I was probably 50 yards from the base, think I need a 500mm frown )

pre-crop

Great "gang" HoHoHo.

Don't know if this is good enough for this thread. I think it's my best to date with the 55-250.
Any advice is very welcome.

Again a simple crop and sharpen would work wonders as it appears to be nice and sharp, just the birdie is a bit small smile. I'll spare you the dreaded 'dibbly edit' this time though hehe

I'm going to keep droning on at you until you get some software to do post processing so you might as well give up now wink
