Hurricanes - much better for the time.

Chap on the right in the original Spitfire photo certainly did not look like he was living life on the edge in an era of austerity. But then I suppose at that point the austerity had not entirely hit home.

BTW, slightly moving the topic, for those who may not have heard of it there is a book called Fighter Pilot by Paul Richey that is an excellent read, especially if you can read it in an early edition - 1941 or 1942.

It is still available from various sources. The early editions were published anonymously.
