Due to popular demand (or rather being told off by one person for posting one of the photos random photos thread) please find below a few images from a recent shoot for Caterham of their SP 300R.

Caterham had brought with them a mock-up of the brochure which helped a lot, but it was a very challenging shoot to get the results they were after. There is an animated GIF after the photos which should give away how some of the photos were lit and what the location looks like in natural light.

Any comments, abuse, random off-topic posts welcome as usual.

Really liking the rear shot. The GIF is very educational for me, I never realised just how much work there is in a shoot

That does look amazing, the gif gives an idea that (like a lot of things) jobs done well look easy when you see the end result!
How much time do you spend processing the shots compared to taking them?

Stunning looking car.

GIF very interesting mate... presumably you have a lot more control using a single constant light source, instead of multi strobes? I guess you shot layers for each individual section and 'built' the final image in PS afterwards?

The head-on shot was, other than the floor and a bit of flair from the light, straight from camera. The other dark BG images though were much harder and probably took 2hrs of processing each, details together took 5hrs (mostly sensor dust removal, was shooting at high f-stops).

You know, I can't remember if I just used the modelling lamp or whether I used flash for the head-on but it's a single layer for the lighting. The others were flash-lit in multiple exposures due to how complicated the shapes of the car are. But yes, a lot more control using constant lighting, which is how all the big boys do it smile

Great images Dean.

We knew Caterham were working on something new... and it was only a month or so ago that we found out it wasn't going to be road legal. From my personal POV it's a shame - could have done with a GT car, but 10 years ago when I was on track most weekends, I would have LOVED this! Great looking machine. Radical with residuals!

Thanks all.

Looks like the GIF went down well, I might have to do that more often.

Here's a screen-grab of the RAW files in Bridge:

The only problem with it being a GIF is that you dont know when it starts/finishes...so you can end up watching it forever!!
