Advice on D-SLR Purchase Please (& Printer ?)
Discussion
You are right, it does depend on paper. Always use the manufacturer's ink, and either their paper or better (www.tetanal.co.uk, or some of the Ilford Pro stuff you get from 7dayshop.com which loves the Epson inks.)
Done with the right inks and paper, it will look like a photo, not like a 'print from a printer'.
It also depends on how much you are wanting to print.
If you are looking for a few prints now and again, and maybe want to play about with some images (play with colours, sizes etc.) and have the ability to get prints 'instantly' then get a home printer.
If you want to go to an event/holiday, then select 30 or 40 to print out, use someone like photobox.co.uk - it is cheaper.
I do both, use the home printer for specials and one-offs, photobox for bulk.

Hmmm.. another one to throw into the melting pot... Wifey's eixsting EOS300 has a 28 - 90 mm Lens, and the EOS300D comes with a 18 - 55 mm lens ...is it worth buying a complete 300D to have the extra different lens.?
Clearly I know sod all about this sort of thing so I apoligise if thats a stupid question

Home printers, as I said before look at Epson. The 300 is a good start.
With regards to lenses, you will find that because the 300D has a smaller sensor than a piece of 35mm film, your field of view is smaller. The multiplier is 1.6.
Simply, to fit what you could fit into a 28mm frame before(the wide end of your existing lens) you will now need to have a 17.5mm (18mm lens).
So due to this multiplier, your existing 28-90 will work out to be essentially a 45-144mm lens, and the 18-55 you get with the body will be the equivalent of a 28-80mm on your old camera (the 300).
To be honest, I would get the 18-55 if I were you, sell your 28-90 and get a 75-300 (£112 from www.7dayshop.com).
You will then have a nice range from fairly wide to telephoto for not much money at all.

Yes - i used the 35-80 from my old EOS10 and its more like 60-130 on the 300D. The 28mm i have looks more like a 50mm on the 300D.
I'm considering purchasing the Sigma 28-70 f2.8 DG for my 300D to give me the wide angle bit i desperately need.
I brought A 300d last year after having a compact digital camera but wanting that little bit more scope when going to motor races etc.
Havent looked back, although still learning as i tend to use the Automatic settings too much.
You got a good deal there, off to see what lenses they have. after a 300mm

You've done pretty well there - 300Ds really are a steal these days!
All the photos here (LeMans 2003) were taken with a Canon D10.
The 2 photos of the pit crew at Lemans on the last page were taken from the stands the otherside of the track. Something you could never do without a SLR.

Bargin.
Might have to check Canon Outlet for the printer.
What's the quality like?
I use the iP4000 - and I'm very pleased with it.
If you can push to the 4000R, you'll have a wireless printer, but this may be only of some use if you have or plan on putting a Wi-Fi card in the PC.
For those of us using Macs, esp the higher end models, the Airport card is already fitted, so this makes perfect sense from the outset.

Hard to say at the moment as we're still waiting for the paper to arrive, however some dry runs on ordinary papaer give pretty impressive results. I'm sure I'm not going to be dissapointed, and for £53 its not a disaster if we want to upgrade at some point.
