Hi Guys.
Today was grey, freezing and generally crap, and the car was the same colour as the sky. Didnt have long to shoot these (i think we were out for about an hour and a half) including waiting for clear roads etc. No walkthrough, but I thought Id add some exif info. All at ISO 100 with 28-70L or 28-135IS
1/13sec @ f20 28mm
1/250sec @ f2.8 70mm
1/30sec @ f9 41mm (IS really helps here)
1/250sec @ f4.5 70mm
1/40sec @ f5.0 75mm
Thanks!
Matt

28-70L, I dont think srider is ever going to see it again.... That lens is pure perfection. no sharpening no nothing. I really want one!
Cheers

just noticed you said that at the top as well. So the current Canon model?
They dont make that lens anymore, its now the 24-70L i think, which ive heard is also excellent

Really nice work.
If you had grey skies all the time the flat light available may have been useful for the close ups - was that a factor in you selection of images to try for on the shoot?
I didnt really have much time, so i just went for a couple of static shots, an action shot and a couple of details. The light was nicely softened by the cloud, but it was a really dreary dull day, so I tried to make the photos as compositionally interesting as possible instead of letting the car stand out by itself (also good considering most people hate the styling!)

Looks like you had the same problem I had with the exposure being right for the sky but wrong for the car.
There's a lot of detail in the shadow that you can't see - thanks to Gravymaster's instructions further down this thread you can recover the detail!
My bodgy effort - you will do better with the original:
edited to add - unless that was the look you were going for - in which case - sorry!

That was the effect I was after - along with the slight difuse glow added afterwards. There was a bit more detail in the car in the original, but I wanted to retain the dark feel of the image overall. So I selected the sky and adjusted the levels, then burnt in a couple of areas a little more. Then selected the foreground, removed a couple of sticks that were annoying and adjusted levels. Then selected the car and adjust the levels down until it was dark enough for me and then applied a slight diffuse glow over the whole thing on a seperate layer and reduced its effect by making it about 40% opaque.
Not managed to find a decent location to take some more traditional shots of it yet.. I'll have to stick to driving it instead
EDIT: could also depend on what monitor you view it on. I did that on my laptop, I'll have to see what it looks like on a proper screen...
