It's a 5p and I was slightly above it. :P

You need to save up for a 5p? You need to demand a payrise!

Steve,
How far away were those when taken?

When you say 1:1, are those pics full frame resizes or crops from a full full frame?

ta.

Pics were taken from about 5" - all I did was resize, not crop - so the 5p piece is HUGE (about 3 monitors wide - well at the res I'm using anyway).

The macro lens has a sliding scale on it from 1:10 to 1:1.

At 1:1 the captured image is the same size as the subject ...

Also pointing out here that this ain't my bag... I'm just messin' round. Have no fancy lights - hence the 5p looks a bit too 'gold' - lit by a £6 desklamp (how did you guess!)

I spent 20 mins chasing a bee round the garden this afternoon (it's tough in the music biz ) and got 60 pics - all out of focus - it's a tricky lens to work!

...finally gave up on the bee and took this of the inside of a dandelion clock (no cropping - but still needs focus and dof work methinks)

There's NO WAY that 5p is "same size". I'd NEVER be able to fit one in my pocket if it was!!

I use the 105 macro underwater all the time. It's a fabulous lens for taking pictures of small fishies and weird beasties.

Try pulling down the yellow and red. Oh, and tranform to make it round again!

Hey diddy (stupid question time) How do you take an SLR with a 105 underwater (without trashing it?)

..BTW - I FINALLY caught up with that bee.

Nice shot Mr Carter and may I say how impressive your website is!!

Just about to buy the Sigma 105 macro that I guess will give similar results to your Nikon one.

Wanted to know if you are using any flash with it. I am thinking of getting a Vivitar ring flash 6000AF. It syncs with nikon's TTL and can be had for about £65.

Any thoughts?

Greg

PS. How much did you finally end up paying for the 105mm and do you know how much you could get a sigma 105mm EX DG from your bargain source.

Thanks G

That seems to good to be true. Can you confirm it supports the Nikon CLS?

Worth knowing, as lighting can be a problem with macro - flash will help the shutter speed and DOF but the built-in Speedlight is no use as the lens gets in the way.

No flash - just 50 out of focus shots until the bugger stopped moving.

Different bunch but from Hong Kong - £194 & P&P and possibly about £20 import tax (one never knows)

Don't forget there's a Nikkor Micro 60mm f2.8 as well. Same magnification, but less £. The only practical difference is that you'll be closer to the subject, which may or may not be important.

Thanks. The sigma is 195 plus 25 postage and a possible 20 tax making it 240. I have found it here for about £250 so I think I will get that one.

Guess the Nikon 105 would be nicer and would keep my kit all branded.

Not too sure about CLS but it does say full TTL with Nikon.

What do you think?
