Covered the world powerboats in Plymouth as stills for a TV company with rex recently.

WHAT A SPORT - 2 1000bhp lambo engines in each boat doing over 150mph - stunning, and the noise is to die for...

Canon 20D with 100-400L

Here are some of the pictures, EXIF in gallery.

Full gallery here (compression on PH kills them): www.pbase.com/baguleys/worldpowerboats

Love the first shot and also the one of the 'Jotun' boat going downhill.

The problem with offshore powerboat photography, is getting in a privalaged position to be able to take great shots. Looks like you was.

The first shot was a 'mistake' that turned out well. I was shooting in Aperture priority and had it at F10 as I had been playing just before the start. They started, I panned, shot a load, then afterwards realised the aperture setting - that pic was at 1/60!!! (the others in the run were rather nasty... )

With regards to the privileged position, I was out on Plymouth Breakwater, MOD permission only land. There was a TV camerman at each end of the breakwater, a runner and me. Very nice position indeed. Some pics of Paul the TV guy are here: www.pbase.com/baguleys/plymouth_paul and give you an idea of where I was standing...

Also, seeing the crap the TV guys have to carry, I was glad I do stills (the mast is a microwave transmitter), though I was carrying my kit and some of his kit, including two massive batteries:
