hey, i recently bought a camera mount for use in me car from maplins electronics this one here: www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=45383&criteria=mount&doy=21m1

bascially i've found out that due to where the tripod hole is on my mini dv camera, there is no physical way i can attach the mount to the windscreen and have the camera facing forwards, so it has to be upside down to film fowards.

is their anyway i could mount it in the car to record facing forwards? i've tried it on the side window but it just records the a pillar!

is their anyway i can turn the image upside down(which would view the right way on a tv) through the cameras options? i've had a look but havent found anything.

or am i stuck with flipping the image in windows movie maker and not being able to view videos on my tele without turning my head upside down?

any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you use XP, you can do it in Windows Movie Maker after the fact and then record the video back into your camera using firewire. I am assuming you have a miniDV cam...

I've just discovered how to do this!

In Windows Movie Maker, (start>all programmes>accesories>WMM),when you have a scene in the timeline at the bottom, click "video effects"...scroll down to "rotate 180"..then simply drag it onto the scene and drop it. Done!

i was looking at that but dont have 40 quid to hand for it at the moment. the amount of times that i would use it i wouldnt really get my moneys worth.

is that what you've got? can you angle it on a windscreen to face forwards? as the one i have (cheapo one) doesnt allow this

yes, with an extra rod that they provide, you can angle it forward. Just mention that when you order one.
it's small compact and does the job. well worth forty quid in my book.

Guys - newbie here, although I've browsed many times.

Couldn't resist plugging a mate's business, and at the same time saving you some money.

Dave Smitheram - AKA FishyDave from the Fiat Coupe forum, has recently set up a business to create vehicle films or to sell equipment at internet prices to assist you to create your own. I know for a fact that he can supply the mount you're on about at a lower price than mentioned here.

Go to www.fastfilms.co.uk - have a look at some of his stuff (including some footage of my own 355)

thanks for that, which one of the suction mounts would you recommend? i've had a look but am unsure as to whether 15.50 one or the 24 pound one will do the job?

i've just recorded the movie using movie maker, and to do it the right way up the image is reversed, so its no good really.

look forward to you response.

shadytree will you be going to virginia waters?

If you followed my instructions earlier it will be back to front horizontally. Sorry. You can drag and drop the mirror horizontally effect to put it right. HTH<

What about the SM7????
www.b-hague.co.uk/camera_suction_pads_vacuum_mounts.htm

£80.00 though.

or the SM5, i have this one, very good for doing in car filming.
I thought about getting the maplins one but i didn't think it would held the camera.
good luck though.

yeah i just realised that when it was half way through, but nothing i could do about it. wasnt an important vid anyway just trialing the mount i got. it took around 1 hour to convert a 6 min vid back onto tape.

its not really convenient so i need one which i can just film straight up. will somewhere like jessops do it? because i need to have a look at one before i buy so that i'm sure it will work, as the windscreen is angled quite a bit backwards.

i've emailed that b-haque company so hopefully should hear from them

i didnt really want to spend all that much money on it, as i wouldnt be using it all that often (saying that i did just spend 200 quid on a sat nav i wont be using all that often!)

cheers for the advice keep it coming

What car are you going to be putting the mount on?
If you are fiting the mount to the windscreen you need about a 5 to 6 inch flat spot that you
can stick the mount. or you can stick the mount to the side window.
just make sure you have a flat area.
also have a look on ebay for camera mounts.

its going on my clio on the windscreen, seems flat enough

i've taken that mount back to maplins as it was more trouble than its worth, took aggggees to turn a 6 min vid the right way round and put it back onto the tape

dave, i've emailed you back

I have the SM1 and SM2 from Hague, but I found that the SM1 was just a little to heavy and the curvature of my windscreen inside didn't give it a good solid fit. The SM2 is much lighter and fits fine. I also use the SM2 with a bullet Cam and you can stick it in some great places on your car without the worries you would have of hurting your video camera.

Check out some of the videos using the SM2 and bullet cam and you can see what I mean.

Wheelcam

Roofcam

and this recent vid on the tunnel run had the camera inside on the SM2 (useful when the weather is pants)

Tunnel run

p.s. doubt i'll be going to V.W

i bought one from fastfilms last night! looks really good.

i dont think that my camera has an av input so wouldnt be able to use a bullet cam, although i havent looked very hard on the camera!

i've seen a few of your vids they were really good, liked the music in the tunnel run. i dont want to even get started on the astons in dartford tunnel all i will say is WOW !!!!!

so how come you wont be attending VW?

Shady, which is your cam? Is itt the 2.9 or 4.3? Low lux on the tunnel run seems good, but is it not better to just mount the vid cam if shooting from inside the car?

Thanks

What JVC camcorder you got? I have a GRDX28EK and was wondering if that kit would fit my camera
