I spent both this last Saturday and Sunday at the Flying Legends airshow at Duxford.

Very few words can describe just what an awesome event this is, and there is a lot of emotion as well. There were a lot of the original aircrews present who flew these very aircraft in the second world war.

Probably the most famous of those that were present were a number of airmen of No 617 Squadron, the famous Dambusters. Its very hard not to feel totally in awe of these people who risked their lives to help give us the country we live in today bow

Anyway here are just a few of the photo's i took over both days. Hopefully they will inspire some of you to visit this event next year..... Each day finished in a mass flypast, 21 aircraft on the saturday and 25 on the Sunday. No words can describe this event, i think Epic comes close though...

Enjoy.... I have photo's of other aircraft which were present if anyone has any requests....

What lens are you using for the aerial shots, very sharp?

Pretty much all the shots other than the very first one were using Canons 100-400L IS Lens. Its a super sharp lens, really do recommend it.

Excellent pictures, we live a few miles away for most of the airshows the formations form up over our village before heading back to duxford (depending on the wind I suspect), we get some great views and the finale on sunday afternoon was something to behold..

Nice pics...and who doesn't like Mustangs?!? Small beasts too next to an F15...and they were bigger than Spits, too!

Oh...is that an Fw190 spinner and cowl after those two Corsair noses?!? Because if so I've GOT to go next year! Out of the WW2 planes the two I've not seen airborne I really want to are (proper) Fw190's and Bf109's.

Yup its a proper FW190 alright. Its in fully airworthy condition but didnt fly on the day due to still waiting for its official flight approval documents. Hopefully should be flying at next years show.

The ME109 in the lineup is a Spanish 'built under licence' model and its fitted with a Merlin engine so its not really a 'proper' German built version. It was built towards the end of the war so its genuine in as far as its from the right time period.

In one of the hangers there is also a 'built under licence' Heinkel HE111 thats awaiting restoration.

Only the first three photo's used a polarising filter. All the others were with no filters at all attached to the lens. All i had to do was tweak the pics slightly in Rawshooter before converting to JPEG.

All shots taken on a 1DS MKII but i find that in sunshine the camera really makes colours come alive. Its not so great when its dull though as in the pic with the F15 in formation.
