Digital Compact Camera - Advice

Have been tasked with getting my mum a digital camera for her birthday (Thursday). She's got an old (by modern standards) olympus one, but the screen is tiny, and it's seen better days after all these OAP vacations she's been enjoying!

So, has anyone got any recommendations? Best buys?? I bought a Canon Ixus 3 years ago for myself, which seems pretty decent, but I am sure that's old hat aswell now.

The current Panasonic compact digital cameras are excellent.

I'd recommend something from the Ixus range .

Don't know how old your mum is, but we had to buy the MiL a camera last year and found the Kodak range to be most 'oldie-friendly'.

Bought her the matching photo printer so she could just plug the camera in and print her snaps out.

I bought a Panasonic Lumix recently which is excellent, particularly the wide-angle lens that they all have. I think the one I have is the FX35.

I just bought one of these (FX35), and it's pretty damn good. If it's for your mum, then it's ideal since it's so easy and fool-proof to use.

As mentioned in my other thread, if you can afford the FX37 which is another £20 or so, go for that as you get a 5x zoom as opposed to a 4x zoom.

P.S. Don't get your mum a Canon G9. It's definitely not a "mum friendly" camera (unless she's into photography).

It's big, bulky and a total waste of money if you don't intend on using the features and keeping it set to auto.

Have had a look at the options and think the Pana FX35 looks just the job.
