SD Cards

I've got a camera that records to SD card, I'm looking for a bigger size card from the 2GB one I have now, possibly 4 or 8GB, but just wondering one small thing...

Will a Sandisk card work just as well as a Panasonic 'brand' one will?

I'm 99% sure it will, as long as it's from a reliable source and not some ebay retard selling didgy goods, but just wondered if any of the PH collective would have a better insight?

Bigger ones are usually SDHC, so you need to make sure your camera is OK with it

i would have more fiath in the the Scan Disk (SD) card than the Pan one as the pan will be just re-branded. I have 2 16GB class 6 cards that i bought for $30 each a month ago and work fine in my HD camera. Although now I think that is probably expensive. Check that the PC, card reader and camera can read anything of decent size because the older stuff cant.

Manufacturers sometimes list the cameras that have been tested ok with their cards.

Get one from Play.com...really daft prices.

I think 8GB is my limit and my instructions say SDHC is the only option at that size anyway. Seeing as how the Panny one is 30 quid and the SanDisk one is a tenner on amazon, I know where I'm looking at first!

Nothing wrong with SanDisk cards.
Almost certainly they will be "better" than the branded Panasonic ones, particularly if you can stretch to Extreme 2 or 3's.

Using the CHDK hack on my Canon found virtually no difference in the speed of Sandisk Extreme III compared to Ultra II, but that's on my camera.

SD stands for Secure Digital not SanDisk.

I use SanDisk Ultra II in my dslr (4 & 8gb) and are more than happy with them. I won't pay signifcantly more for panasonic ones.


ETA: I just read that the SD format was developed by Panasonic, Sandisk and Toshiba. So I don't think we can dismiss the Panasonic ones as 'just re-branded'.

I've got a micro SD sandisk, 8GB in my phone, its fine. bullet proof actually, uploads fast, if anything its my phone software that is slow. Cost me about 20 notes on ebay. For the money they are..........., win win me'thinks!
