I have just bought a Fuji FinePix F410 as a present for my wife and, not knowing a lot about these things, was amazed to see on reading the papers that it would only take 10 shots on the 16Mb card provided.

There is no mention of compression in the blurb that I have seen, so will it really only take 10?

240 shekels and only 10 pics at a time? I thought these things were just expensive toys. Am I right?

Thanks

That sounds about right with a standard issue memory card. You will have to buy a bigger card to be able to take more photos.

Or like I said elsewhere, you don't HAVE to take every pic on 'hairy bastard' mode. That means my pix are not 2Mb but 750Kb (same image size though), and I get about 84 on a 64Mb card. Try it and see if you can spot any difference.

Many thanks gents.

I will let my wife pay for the larger memory card and will also reduce the resolution as suggested.

Have a good Christmas.

Not resolution - I think it's done by compression. Hence you get the same image size in pixels but smaller files. I think people get scared by compression and think it will turn their pictures into a mosaic; not true. But like I say, try some tests. Luckily I have PShop and so can juggle image size and compression to get the best result for the task, be it e-mail or printing.

Always shoot at the highest resolution, you can always downsize using an image manipulation programme (photoshop) but you can never put back what wasn't there in the first place.

Buy another card, they are so cheap on eBay anyway. But always buy a branded one the cheap ones are cheap because they are s l o w !

E-Bay? Now why didn't I think of that. BTW my cousin has just bought the same camera and paid paid £369 for it at Argos. Mine was bought at Jessops.

I think he has the picture cradle which I don't but this is £50. A win for Jessops?

Thanks to all for the advice.
