Jag seats are good - very comfortable - slightly bigger than the TVR seats but I'm 6 foot 3 and still fit in - they are slightly higher and its marginal for me seeing out of the windscreen - headroom is OK.
For all you short people out there they will be fine!
A few issues with the seatbelt to resolve but I have a plan........

For the engine as a minimum new camshaft, hydraulic lifters, oil pump gears, rockers (got now), bottom end main/big end bearings(existing are OK but false economy in my view to put the old ones back) new clutch (got).

Chris

OK an update on the power steering.

The V8S UJ with the power steering rack was too long.

The V6 UJ is a perfect fit (Rally Design one in useful links).
13mm spline both ends with the rack I've got.

Happy Days. bounce

Bloomin eck Chris, you put the body on on your own?! I was hoping to come over and see the shiny shassy before the body went back. Don't suppose you could lift it off for me again could you hehe

It's looking good mate. April will be here sooner than you think wink
Yes the body is on - I know its been the longest body off in history but I'm getting there!
Hoping to get the brakes & steering connected this weekend, I'm really feeling like its getting there now.
It may sound daft but just wheeling it outside and giving it a wash made it look like a car again instead of a dusty pile of bits!

Need to save up my Xmas pennies for the engine bits now. Yes I'll be doing that aswell. I can screw it up as well as any garage!

Anyway Longers, about S Club....

OK a mini update.
Not done much over the last few weeks as its been too damned cold, even with 3kW worth of heater going flat out in the garage.

What I have done is stripped all items off the bulkhead, cleaned & polished it all up and now started to put the items back on.
The coolant expansion bottle is refitted after a serious clean, though its still not perfect.

I took the brake servo off to paint it, unfortunately there was a horrible reaction between the paints and it all wrinkled up. I finally stripped it all off again today and repainted it, its still drying but is looking OK.
Got the rear brake valve bolted onto the bulkhead & the rear pipe fitted to it.

Will try to get a pic tomorrow, its too cold, dark and snowy now.

Well further progress update - brakes all done, bled, working and with no leaks whatsoever.
Pics to follow tomorrow.

Tom. Another project. Watch my lips. NO!

Norman, there's a short flexi from the caliper, then a solid bit of pipe, then the long flexi hose at the front, pic below.

I went for the original setup for a few reasons - one is that I like to be able to see what condition my hoses are in - maybe I am worrying unnecessarily but I don't like the idea that you can't see the hose inside the braiding.

The second is cost - I'd like to do the rebuild with the best of everything but the braided lines are quite expensive for the V8S (more than V6 ones) and I wanted to go all metric with the pipe fittings; I wasn't sure what the braided hoses would give me.

Finally I've seen the routing of the braided hoses at the front and I have to say I'm not that keen on it.
Again I'm probably worrying about nothing, but its one less mod to declare to the insurance.

Anyway on with the show.....

Servo & master cylinder all fitted & connected.
Still some final routing to be done on those front pipes.

The engine bay will look a lot better when I replace the heat shielding.

Edited to add the servo and master cylinder are painted with Halfords Very High Temperature Metallic Black paint (aerosol).
The temperature bit is immaterial but whats good about it is that it covers brilliantly - and has a sort of graphite final effect that I quite like (it certainly isn't black!).

Finally if anyone is interested to see one here's a couple of pics of the rally design forged UJ (£2 more than the cheaper pressed steel one, so I've just contradicted myself on trying to save a few quid!).

You need a longer bolt for this than the original one (documented in the bolts list - not supplied with the UJ).

Yes - but the new slots are waiting to go on....

I was thinking looking at those pics on the previous page - they just wouldn't do for Mrs Barkychoc.
The chassis would have to have been dusted first before taking any pics! hehe

I'm stripping the engine at the moment so I'll post some pics later of what a disembowelled V8 looks like yikes

Well here's what I've been up to recently - all low budget cleaning with plenty of elbow grease!

Hopefully I won't have any bits left at the end!

Engine Bits

Block

Gearbox now all shiny and bright!

OK a bit more done.
I welded some reinforcement to the clutch fork (its a weakness on the V8) and fitted it with a new release bearing.

I've also been gritblasting loads of bits ready for the powder coaters - bling photos to follow soon!

I will have to take pic to show you - I have an engine (& gearbox) stand but I made a great big drip tray that goes underneath out of one of those blue shell shaped kids sandpits / paddling pools.
You can then use degreaser by the bucketload and it all gets caught in the tray. biggrin

It did look like this eek

Now smile

The sump gasket was leaking but it gets whipped down the transmission tunnel by the airflow.

I'm going to tidy up the ports a bit, but otherwise it wil be a fairly standard rebuild with a fast road cam (cam undecided as yet - but with a standard engine you can't go too mental).
My view is if you're in pursuit of big horsey numbers then a bigger engine would be they way to go initially - or change the car for a 4.6 / 5.0 griff/chim. I am not going to do that anytime soon though.

As for horsey numbers as long as I get it over the 200 I'll be happy - the reality is the 3.9 lump was never anywhere near the 240bhp TVR claimed.

A quick pic of one of the new wheels biggrin

The body is high as the car hasn't been moved since it was jacked up to fit the wheels, and it is high anyway as the engine and gearbox are not fitted.

I've also been doing some engine work, pics to follow.

KeTVRin emailed me to ask how the rebuild is going.

After losing my job in Feb this year funds have been a bit limited, I've been doing this though

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Forgive me I posted it on the Chim forum as there's a lot of V8 knowledge on there.
It's actually moved on a touch now as I've made copper mountings for al 3 ribs.

After getting no work at all for a bit I setup my own company, then I picked up a 3 month contract for my old employer rage which has been a really tough project, but bar a bit of work this weekend that's now finished.

I've picked up a couple of other clients along the way and all being well I've got some work coming up in the next couple of weeks that will take me up till Christmas. smile

If this happens as I hope then I'll have some TVR project funds hippy

Well I have just spent rather a lot on engine parts which will arrive next week.
My ownership of the V8S still isn't clear moving forward, but whether it stays or whether it goes it needs to be finished, so the rebuild will continue, and if I have to sell I will have to do rather a lot of testing beforehand biggrin

Hopefully more rebuild info to follow next week, you never know I might even make S Club!

Chris

Edited to add I'm now going the electric pump route for the power steering, the engine driven pump is a nightmare as there's a million different combinations of pulleys, and the original pump location is low down on the passenger side of the engine right where the exhaust is on the V8S, so that opton is a non starter.

Ken if you want your pump back that you sent me I'll bring it to S Club assuming both you and I are going.

I picked up an electric pump (Citroen Saxo as in Later TVR's) for £20 biggrin
