I can take some pics of mine for you if you need it. J plate with S3C style eletric mirrors and rectangular knobs. No CATs, and original exhaust. (want stainless for pops and bangs)

As a suggestion.....Looking at the number of PHers going to VW on 26th, you could take your camera along as there will be quite a few of us with S's all shapes and sizes.

You should see the full range.. Or put out a request to everyone to take whatever S they have along....

Completly the opposite

"If your still unsure about buying one by yourself you can always get a specialist* to inspect it for you, cost a bit for the inspection but well worth it, or you can buy from a reputable dealer"

*specialist does not mean AA or RAC but the likes of Rob Ingleby etc

I would even have linked to his website but it seems forever down :sigh:

Here's a contribution from an earlier thread that might be useful:

Leaving aside official differences (e.g. interior colour, half/full hide, 2.8/2.9 etc.), the differing characteristics, over all models, that I seem to have come across are:

- Driving lights; with or without
- Wiring of driving lights (where present) i.e. on with sidelights, dipped or full beam
- 3 different mirror designs
- Bonnet hump/intake vs. side slits
- Straight vs. curved dash
- Plastic panel heating controls vs. controls built into veneer
- Single/twin bonnet catches
- Front wheelarch liners; with or without
- Ski hatch; with or without (seems quite rare)
- Door handles; with or without TVR logo
- Radio arial; left or right hand wing (also some are electric - was this an option, or luck of the draw?)
To add to that list, I've also seen the straight dashes with both square and round switches.

You could also consider the most common after-market mods that people tend to carry out:

- Gear knob
- Steering wheel
- Alloy roof struts
- Stainless steel exhaust
- Rear light lenses
- De-catting
- Shocks and/or springs

Maybe you could come to VW armed with your camera and see if you can get pics of all the variations - there's a challenge for you!
